Question I am confused about the memory

I am getting confused.

I know that 400 have 64MB RAM and 48 MB ROM. But my friend is tellign me that part of your 64MB RAM includes the 48 MB ROM (which hold the info for your ppc 2002 OS.)

So if fact I really have 18MB worht of internal storage plus what ever is left over of the 48MB that was not used for the OS????

The 64 MB of RAM is divided between Program Memory (used for programs to startup and run) and Storage Memory (available storage for programs, files, etc.)

About 27 MB of the ROM is reserved for OS and preinstalled apps. The remainder, about 21 MB, is available as Built-In Storage (information in Built-In Storage is not lost when batteries are removed or when a hard-reset is performed).

this means that these are two seperate memory...

I have 64 MB RAM and also 48 MB ROM? Not 64 MB RAM (including the 48MB ROM as mr friend is telling me.)

psher,

When you say "run" I assume you mean installed? If so, the answer is YES. When you install the program you usually will get a message something like "Do you want to install the program in the default location?". Select NO, and then select either the SD Card or the CF Card as the location where you want the program installed.

When you run the program it is temporarily "loaded" into Program Memory (similar to the RAM on a PC).

Some recommend against loading "system" related software/utilities on either the SD or CF cards. Most other apps usually run fine when installed on either.

Yes, programs can be stored on CF/SC cards and started from there, however at run time they are loaded into the Program memory area of the 64 Meg internal RAM. That occurs automatically, much like the loading of the program from the hard drive into memory on your PC.
