Memory Management

Not being used to the naming conventions of pocket PC I am having trouble working out what is where on my machine and how best to organise it. For example:

i) What is the difference between, ROM, Built-in memory and Main Memory?

If I wish to see how full each 'drive' is how to I find out?

If I add memory to the slot at the head of the X5 (currently holding 64MB, which drive will increase?

Many thanks,
Nick

ROM (48MB on the advanced, 32 on the basic) is where the OS is stored.
Built-in memory is what is left over from ROM and is made available by a utility included on the Axim (as you probably know, ROM stands for read-only memory so it takes a special program to make it possible to write onto it).
Main memory is RAM. It's where programs run and where they and your files are stored by default. The OS on the PPC allocates part of RAM for storage and part for progarms but it adjusts these as needed and you also have some control over this setting by going to Start, Settings, System (tab), Memory. If you select the Storage card (tab) on this page, and select the 'storage cards' from the dropdown list, you can see how much memory is in use and free.

The slot 'at the head of the X5' is where Compact Flash memory and accessories go and is listed as "CF card" on the above referenced page.

There is a small typo in Ike's post. It should read "The OS on the PPC allocates part of RAM....
