Input of words

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I haven't heard anything of how to input letters, words, etc. Does the Axim have a Grafitti system like other PDAs? If so how well does it work? Any info on this topic would be greated appreciated.

You have several choices:

Block Recognizer - the same as Palm Graffiti

Letter Recognizer- similar to Graffiti, but with real letters written out as opposed to graffiti characters

Transcriber- write out entire words/phrases in script or cursive writing and it gets translated once you stop inputing

Virtual Keyboard - keyboard entry

I presume all these options come with the Axim?

If you need to input, do you choose at that time which one to use?

You set the preferred method and it stays that way until you do a hard or soft reset.

As a former Palm user (for 8 years) I prefer Graffiti.

You have access to all 4 types anytime you are in an app that allows inputting data. The selector is at the bottom-right of the screen. It shows you which option is currently in use, plus has a popup trigger to allow you to change at any time.

Actually, you may change this at any time with the menu you can pull up from the bottom right of your screen. No resets necessary. I often switch from transcriber to keyboard (screen keyboard) when I need to make certain the letters I'm inputting are recognized fast (as in URLs)

And then you can always buy one of the external keyboards... (my choice)

check out this thread for a method that is harder to learn than graffiti but some people claim is more accurate and faster. I just stararted playing with it and I am impressed so far.

While on this subject of inputting words, there are 2 methods of doing the Keyboard entry. Most probably don't discover until much later that there is a Large Keys option. The keys are much easier to see and tap using the Large Key option but the numbers and lot of punctuation is missing necessitating pushing the 123 key or shift key to get them back. HOWEVER, in using the large keys, IF you active Using Gestures, they are also on the screen ready to use. It may take a little time but folks that don't like to use Graffitti and Letter Recognizer may enjoy this type of word entry.

I've used graffiti for about 3 years, but I do not currently care much for the graffiti that is on the axim. The axim screen is much less forgiving (maybe better said as being a heck of a lot more sensitive). I get about 1 character right out of about 4...
