Storage card memory??

I have check the sd card which comes with the x3i and it looks like a dud, I mean just a plastic fill in to occupy the whole.
Now when i look at my memories it mentions that I have 34.81 MB of total storage card memory. Not bad for a simple piece of plastic, so what gives??
Thanks for your help nothing earthshaking but I am just curious.

It is a dud, the memory you refer to is probably the memory on the device unless you've got a real memory card! The giveaway is always the copper pins on the card, if it ain't got 'em, it ain't a memory card.

It is a dud for sure no metal pins to be seen. but 34 megs from a piece of plastic aint bad so I might shove in a piece of wood in there and I might get 64 megs(just kidding)
I was just trying to figure out how the memory is being split into, and that memory card stuff has to be coming from somewhere else. Anyway I will figure it out somehow, and if the wood business works I might be on to a new venture. :D

The axim comes with two types of memory -- RAM and ROM. RAM requires electricity to keep from going blank, but things stored in the rom (or built-in storage as it is referred to in file manager) will save even if the Axim totally runs out of electricity.

You get 64meg of ROM, but a good portion of it is used to store the operating system (and programs like pocket excel and pocket word). What is left is built-in storage, in the amount of 31.something megabytes. If you get a REAL SD memory card and stick it in the slot in place of the plastic insert, you'll see a new type of storage -- and it will vary in size depending on the card.

If you put programs into memory, you should backup to built-in storage or storage card, or you'll lose everything if your batteries run out of juice (or you have to hard reboot for any other reason).

Hope this helps.

If you get the wood thing to work, you will let me know, won't you? As I work for a building material distribution and supply company, there's brass to be made for both of us!!
