backup and safe mode

Two questions please. I go into safe mode when powering up and down frequently and would prefer not to. Secondly, I am receiving a backup battery low power alert and would like to know how this is charged. Thanks - Larry

Are you talking about a safe mode on your PPC? I didn't know there was such a thing

As for the backup battery, a search on the site will bring up a lot of discussion about it if you are you using an X5. However, a brief answer:
1) The backup battery is replacable (CR2032 from any electronics or department store).
2) Some people have needed to add a bit of folded paper to the battery compartment or slightly bend the contacts to keep from getting the low battery warning.
3) If you are using an old version of PPC02 on the X5, you should upgrade the ROM since there was also a problem in ROM A00 with the battery reporting.

Thanks Ike. I assumed it is a safe mode. When I turn on or off at times there appears a screen that is not lighting up completely and I need to hit the power button twice to have the start up screen appear normal. The battery problem resolved itself on last charge up and I did try a search before posting. Once again, thanks. Larry

you're holding the power button down to long when you turn it off or on. a quick press of the power button turns the unit on or off, holding the power button down a little longer toggles the backlight on or off.
