Using Windows XP and Outlook 2000

Is anyone getting an error message when trying to synce their AXIM with a desktop using Windows XP: "Can't open Outlook. can't find file OMI9.dll?

This started a couple of days ago for me. I think it was after I got some upgrades or patches from Microsoft for my Windows XP program.

Does this anyone use Windows XP with Outlook 2002 and get this error?

I don't use XP, but if you did some updating, you might have to re-install Active Sync.

Reinstalling Active Sync doesn't work. Been there, done that several times.

The problem is in XP, according to Microsoft. But I'm not sure Outlook 2002 will solve the problem. That's what I'm trying to find out before I spend a hundred bucks on Outlook 2002.

I can sync fine with Outlook 2002 and XP Pro.
Active sync only allows one mail sync - so I settled on my work PC for mail sync wich is outlook 2000 and Win 2k

Contacts and tasks are synced across both PC's and the Axim

Only one mail sync?

Les,

You mentioned that active sync only allowed on mail sync. Unfortunately I setup my brand new axim to sync with my work mail from my home computer. If what you say is true, I would like to sync my mail via my work computer. do you know how to make the switch so that I can sync via my work computer and not my home computer as is currently the case? Thanks.

This happened to a machine at work. I did the following, but it was on Win2k and Outlook 2k. I guess you could give it a shot...

Les,

Regarding your use of XP pro and Outlook 2002, have you updated XP recently from the messages that Microsoft sends out from time to time?

Les,

Did you ever get that error message listed in my original post?

No I never go the error.

And no I have not synced to XP outlook 2002 mail since the last part of january, I do routinely sync to XP outlook 2002 for notes and contacts.

I guess I would try to do the regedit suggested by james -- setting the value of MailSupport to 0 (internet only) I believe you need some backoffice servers if you want to set it to corporate or workgroup. - as always when working with the registry - record what you change so you can get back -- this one looks fairly harmless.

If I recall correctly you have to delete the partnership you have with your home computer, establish a new partnership at work, then re-establish guest partnership with home computer... It was all documented step by step some where, in the activesync documents

Lucky me: A Newbie with XP 2002 Professional. No problem. Just need more time to use the Axim.

So far every thing work correctly.
