Play MP3/WMA directly from network drive

Hi All,

I've had my Axim 400 for a few days now and have installed a Linksys WiFi CF card. I have got it working on both my home and office WiFi networks and have managed to get the Axim to display the contents of my desktop PC's shared MP3 folder. I can cut, copy, delete, add and generally manipulate files in the network folder but I can't get the Axim to play MP3/WMA directly from the newtork folder. With 3GB of MP3 in there, I'd like to be able to play the music directly from the shared folder without copying it to my Ax. Anyone any idea how to do this...?

Thanks in advance...!

You can stream audio and video from your desktop with windows media encoder. And it's free at windowsmedia.com.

Is your network share shown as 'My Network' root? Or as a folder under "My Device"? I have it set as a folder under 'my device' so that my media player can scan for files automatically.

Cheers.

Hi Hooch. Would rather not have to steam if at all possible. PC has a high 'quiescent' CPU load as it is.

Hi Fritz,

Erm, losing me a bit there. I don't think it's either. The file is a shared folder on my desktop PC (path is \\barnaby\mp3). To find this on the Ax I have gone into File Explorer and clicked the Network icon at the bottom then poiinted the Ax to the aforementioned network share name.

How do I go about configuring it like yours with a network folder shown under my device...? Dummies guide please - I'm new to the Pocket PC stuff having defected from a Psio Revo...!

I can see how to add a folder, but not make that folder one from a shared network resource.

Ta,

W

What I used was Resco file explorer. What it does is that it allows you to configure your network resource as a root or as a sub-folder under 'my device'. That should cure the prob. Goodluck!

Cheers.
