Installing Software on Handheld and Desktop

I just read the great article regarding software installation but I am wondering why some programs install software on my desktop computer as well. For example the Symantec Antivirus for handheld and Adobe Acrobat for Pocket PC installed something on my desktop computer as well as to the handheld. What will happen if I remove these programs from my computer and why is it necessary for the software to be installed on my computer.

not sure about symantec, but i have mcafee and it doesn't install anything on my ppc. it runs the scan every time i sync and just does it through the cradle. as for adobe, it may be needed to convert the file to a ppc version of a pdf file.
