Which route to take in purchase?

Hello, I actually have not yet purchased my Axim. I have settled after long hours and research on the Axim as it is the best bang for the buck I feel.

Anyhow, my question is this. I am going to be ready to buy in 2 weeks. I have seen many posts as to the long wait if you order from Dell Direct. There are plenty of Resellers on eBay. The price is about the same but they say they ship in 24 hours.

So is it ok to buy from resellers on ebay? Do I still qualify for the rebate? and the warranty? Or should I just put up with the long wait from Dell, which I may not do and just simply go with my next pick the Toshiba e740.

It seems that wait times with Dell are hit and miss at this point. Some people talk about getting them in 2-3 days, others have been waiting since January.

As for the ebay folks...

The warranty is transferrable, though I don't know if you have to rely on the person you are buying it from to take action or if you can make the switch yourself. I would think that if you look around on Dell's site you can find the info re: the process for transferring warranties.

You will not get the rebate. To get the rebate you have to submit your packing slip showing that you qualified for it. Chances are that the reseller has already collected the rebate for the Axim(s) they are selling (hence how they can match Dell's prices and still make money)

TimdJohn,

FYI, I ordered my Axim today from the Dell website. Currently my order status says it will "Ship on or before March 4th." I'll try and remember to post if this changes or when it ships so you can have an idea of it went for me.

Take care,

Gary

I ordered my Axim on 2/17 and the shipment tracking shows that it is supposed to be delivered tomorrow (2/25). At the time of ordering, Dell said it wouldn't be shipped until 3/4 and the extra battery would be shipped on 3/21. I guess if they tell you 2 - 4 weeks and it arrives in 1 then you are supposed to be happy. I will be - can't wait!

Yes that makes sense. I was wondering how all these guys were making a profit on eBay. I didn’t think Dell would have authorized them as resellers. I guess I am going to take a chance and just order one straight from the source. That way I get the rebate and no mishaps with the warranty.

I may get some of the accessories off eBay. I have seen a few good deals on extra batteries. As long as they are the genuine thing. Learned my lesson the hard way on cheap cell phone batteries.

TimdJohn,

I ordered my Axim on Feb.10th and it was supposed to ship today. Looked on the web site this morning under my order status, they have bumped it to March 4th.

It appears that ordering accessories that are noted "could delay order" in the customize area of the web site are in fact true. So my advice would be to order the Axim only, then on a seperate order fill your accessories list.

Timdjohn,

As promised, I'm posting with my shipment information. I ordered my Axim (400 mhz version) on Monday morning, Feb 24th. On Feb 25th, Dell's web page said, "It's on its way," and that it was in route to UPS. I just checked this morning and they show it as being in UPS's hands with an estimated delivery of Friday, Feb 28th (I paid the extra $2.00 for second day air).

Please note: I didn't order any accessories except the extra USB sync cable. I steered clear of anything that said it may delay my order.

Another thing to note: I am ordering a SanDisk 256 meg SD card from Dell's accessory page today. It's 15% off on the accessory page (it was full price if I ordered it WITH the Axim), and there's free shipping included. So I'm getting the 256 SD card for $50 bucks delivered (including tax). I checked locally and the best price I could find for the same size card was about $55, which ends up being $59 with tax. I think the sale and/or free shipping on accessories ends Thursday.

Take care,

Gary

Question How did you get the free shipping?

I went over to order mine, and stopped the order when I realized I wasn't getting the free shipping.

Thanks in advance.
