If you're thinking of ordering an Axim...
Do yourself a favor, ONLY ORDER THE AXIM. DON'T BUNDLE IT WITH ACCESSORIES. There seems to be a greater shortage of accessories than the Axim itself. Do separate orders, it may make the difference between getting your unit within a week or maybe two and waiting more than 5 weeks (I'm now at the end of my 6th week waiting). (The keyboard seems to be a special problem, get it later, or go for aftermarket.)
Good luck, all I've read says they're great if you can get your hands on one!

Bruce,
I assume your talking the Snap-On Keyboard? Yep, I made the same mistake and ordered lots of accessories including the SO keyboard. My Axim was supposed to ship today, they have now bumped it out to March 4th, ordered it Feb. 10th.
Have you asked Dell if they could split that item out to a seperate order so the Axim can go ahead and ship? Just a thought. If mine is delayed again next week, I'm going to try persuing that plan of action.

how true
how true how true.
I reordered mine yesterday it shipped today(ordered the advance this time). I had a previous order with a snap on keyboard and it was supposed to ship next week march 3(a month and a week after it was ordered Jan 26).
ALSO ORDER ON THE PHONE! the reps will gladly add accesorys and have them shipped separate. I had my snapon keyboard shiped seperate and it could have held up my order for 2-3 weeks(again).
SOOOO $324 after a 25 buck coupn and the 50 buck rebate is great for a 400mhz axim with snap on keyboard. PLUS i get it a week early.

Followed your advice. Just got mine today. Order on Thursday. Got X5 w/o accessories. That will be a separate order. Considering 2 accessory orders. The SO in one and the extra-large battery and stuff in the other.

A bit off topic but has there been any discussion as to why the rebate exists? Is there another Axim model in offing or it is just competition or mailing list building? Just curious.

Yeah, but I got in on the 10% Axim discount deal that ended Feb 18th, it saved me close to $125 dollars for the Axim and all my accessories. Guess I need to weigh it out to see how hard it will get into my pocket.
They did split some of my accessories out to seperate order, these were the OEM stuff I guess (i.e., Pharos GPS, CF Network Card, InterSync s/w. etc.) and I've already received this order.
What good is that order doing me, nadda!

Thanks, BruceP
This is the way to go.
My wife :) ordered mine as a gift and I got it in 5 days. She ordered it 3 day delivery as well. She only ordered the Axim.

No splitting, after this long
I was told the only was to "split" the order is to cancel and reorder the parts. Indeed that might be the way to go, I don't think they could be any slower!!! (today is 41 since I ordered)!

BruceP,
That is what I did, I ordered a second Axim by itself, then called them and ordered the accessories I wanted minus that stupid keyboard that is delaying things so much.
It shipped in less than 10 hours. At least it's out of the "InProduction" status. Since I ordered it next day, I should be seeing it tomorrow sometime.
I'll let you know... (There is bad weather coming and there was really bad weather between here and Dell in Austin. We'll see... :) )

I ordered my Axim on Friday 2/21/03 at 2:30pm and received it at 4:53pm 2/25/03. It is a 400mhz unit ordered with no extras and it was shipped to Kennesaw, GA. The specified projected delivery date range was 2/27/03-3/3/03 :D

BruceP,
I'm seeing the same kind of thing that you were seeing with your first order on my first order. Ordered 2/7, original ship date of 2/24, then 3/3, 3/4, and now 3/10.
I'm really going to enjoy cancelling that order when I get the second order today. :)
