CF card WMA problem?

I recently purchased a Sandisk 1 gig CF card for my Axim. When I copied music onto it and tried playing the songs in WMP or Pocketmusic in WMA format they would sometimes play fine, and then suddenly skip and stop playing (well, no sound was coming out, but the bar was still moving across the screen like it was playing). I had a similar problem playing video files on my CF card that I had encoded using Windows Media Encoder 9. The files work fine on my 256MB CF card, and I have already sent out and recieved a new 1gig CF card and the problem has reared its ugly head yet again. Is there anything I can do? What do you guys suggest? I don't think the problem is with my card because both cards have had a similar problem, and I don't think the problem is with my Axim because the files play fine from my 256mb CF card. Both cards are made by Sandisk. Is it possible that my Axim cannot handle such a large card? It is a first generation X5 w/ 300mHz. I know that I can convert files to Ogg and use WinamPaq or something like that, but the files are bigger than wma files and take longer to convert. Also, what alternative players could I use for video and what formats would work the best? Wma format is the smallest and still offers great quality so I would really like to use this if at all possible. :(. Thank you for your help as I am getting really frustrated with all of this. I was looking forward to all this space and now I can't use any of it. Thank you,
Mike
