PDA as Music Player Help

Guys/Gals,

I am looking at using my Axim as a music player, for going to work on the bus and some light listening. I am looking for some guidance.

Currently, all my CD's are on my PC at home encoded in WMA format and I want to be able to transfer to my PDA 512MB SD card easily and fast.

My questions are:-

1) Is Windows Media Player the best option for the above?

2) Are there better alternatives for playing WMA format and for easy syncing of music between PC & PDA?

3) My main concern, is when travelling with my device, how do I shut the screen off to cutdown battery drain & I want to keep my device in my protective case, but not press any of the front buttons to disturb my playing, so no launching my contacts, or email or any of the front button functions?

4) Is WMA the optimum for size and quality?

Sorry for all the questions, complete newbie when it comes to music by PDA>

Thanks in Advance

John

1) I have used dbPowerAmp and it is very useful. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

2) If you are going to use WMA, Windows Media Player is probably your best (and maybe only) option. There aren't a lot of 3rd party applications that have WMA support.

3) You can 'toggle' the screen in Tools>Settings>Buttons in WMP and similarly in other music players like GSPlayer which may be the most popular 3rd party (freeware) player out there.

4) Though this topic has been debated, many use Ogg format because it tends to be smaller at similar quality levels. Most of this will be determined by your tolerance for music 'quality.' I would suggest that you convert into a few different formats and test them out. I use Ogg almost exclusively with GsPlayer. You can check out GsPlayer at this website... http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/

I hope this helps you out somewhat. I would do a search for similar topics and check out the multimedia forum for more in depth answers.

Have fun listening!

I use PocketMusic 3.0 It ROCKS. WMA OGG Mp3, Streaming, winamp skins, EQ etc. Totally satisfied with their product. www.pocketmind.com I think. They have a free version available and a bonus pack with more robust features for ony $20 I think. I cant remember now its been a while since I bought it.

You could also get Plus! Sync and Go. It works well, and is part of Plus! Digital Media Edition for XP (very nice package)
