Creative Nomad Jukebox - USB Mass Storage Device?
Ok, so this is post #1 after reading much about others trials and tribulations with their Axims. I'll be receiving mine Wednesday evening (hopefully) and at the same time, a Creative Nomad Jukebox that I'm going to upgrade to either 20 or 40 GB. Might anyone know whether I could purchase one of the CF -> USB adapters and cable it to the jukebox to achieve additional storage capacity?
Obviously (more or less), it won't be for playing MP3s as the jukebox is probably perfectly suited for such a task; however, if the jukebox is formatted with a FAT filesystem and can [ab]use the native WM2003 mass storage drivers, what's to stop me from dumping a file here or there to it?
I suppose if that doesn't work, I'm going to purchase a USB 2.5" enclosure for one of the two spare 20GB notebook drives I have hanging out and attempt to go about it in that fashion, but it would be nice if the jukebox could double as Axim storage. (=
BTW, Hi.. I'm a soon-to-be Axim X5 owner and suspect that I will be joining AOA (Axim Owners Anonymous), albeit somewhat less anonymously now that I've posted.

The theory is you can, but most people don't want to spend the money to find out.

At the moment, it is a considerable deterrent; however, I could see the advantage of having that kind of storage and manipulability at your disposal on the run, or for other nefarious causes (i.e. fast hotspot + large storage capacity =D )
Unfortunately, with the X5, even if you did add the CF usb module, then you'll have to have a SD WiFi module -- I could see the headaches it could cause financially for such an accolade.

Well the X5 does not have SDIO so you can't use WiFi with anything other than the CF slot.

CF USB Module + USB Hub + USB Mass Storage + WiFi USB dongle ?
Of course we would still need the appropriate drivers for this setup, but these are just minor details :D

Yeah, I seemed to read in a thread late last night that it is highly dependent upon the availability of drivers for the WM2003 platform rather than the actual ability to connect the device. At some point, I'm sure that power would also be an issue, but that's easily circumvented.
For some reason, I think that drivers could possibly be ported easier for a *nix O/S than that of WM2003.. perhaps that's a tall order. /=

Well, technically, if it's a HID device, it's already got drivers so theoretically, standard keyboards, mice and other generic paraphernalia should work as advertised. I could think of QUITE a few compact USB keyboards I'd rather have than those foldable ones. /=

Still the cost of the CF card is just too high...

Precisely why I don't own one -- yet.
Perhaps a deal will come along some day -- it's not like any of the componentry or development on them could be any more extreme than what's already in place. One of the major players in the CF peripheral market will recognize the need and release something some day.
Or, that's just wishful thinking and we shouldn't sell our laptops. (=
