if your IT administrators are anything like ours, they will find any unapproved hardware you have added. i had tried to set up an access point at work (since we don't have wireless) and had a tech at the office later the same day. they got a message on their system showing unknown hardware attached at one of the ports in my office. once i told them what i did and they checked it out they were fine.
