Ethernet or Direct Cable connection
If I am in an area without wireless connectivity can I connect my Axim30 directly to the Internet with some type of cable connection? TIA - This is all new to me [but it's neat!]

What kind of cable connection? What are you thinking of connecting too?
You could use a cellphone cable if you have a compatible cellphone. Or use an Ethernet cable if there is an Ethernet port and you have an Ethernet SD card.

I'm sure someone will prove me wrong, but I don't believe anyone makes SD ethernet cable cards . . .
plenty of CF versions (glad I have an X5)

Have you found a Ethernet SDIO card? I was unaware that one existed.

Now I'm confused
The manual says connect to a card... but I wasn't sure what kind. Do they make an SD Network card.
to further explain... at work I do not have wireless access but I do have a router or switch I could connect to.

Very good point- I haven't seen one yet either. But there is no reason why one could not be bad, just that we haven't seen one on the market yet.

You could also purchse a mini access point and use that to bridge the X30 wifi to the wired network.

I'll keep an eye out
Hopefully there is something, although nothing shows up on Google. Just an SD Wifi. Already have that :-)

One more question to the moderator
I'm on a VPN and have a switch hooked up so I can connect my personal laptop. Do you think a mini access point would work?

It would act as a media converter if you bridge it.
Like one of these:
http://usa.asus.com/products/communi.../overview.HTM#
PDA ----wifi link ---- AP ---- Ethernet cable to Ethernet switch.

Might wanna check with your Boss or IT Department first.
Most saavy employers are a bit touchy about workers just slapping a WAP on their network!

Very true MrKlaatu. That is why some of use have to use Bluetooth. It allows you to access the network without attaching anything to the corporate network. The administrators are none the wiser.

Hmmmm.......what's that dongle-lookin'-thingy stuck in your USB Port?
And...and...and what about that buxom corporate
spy from the building next door you flirt with through the window? Her purse has this "flashing" quality when she comes over and brings you donuts in the morning!!!

Our corporate policy has rules about both BT and Wifi. Not enforced with any enthusiasm, but they're there. Always good to check though. Good point :)
