video on axim?
I am considering on buying an Axim X30-hi, in the near future. I was wondering about the video and audio playback on it. I know if I got a large SD card I could fit several hours of video on it, but is the video playback watchable??? Could I actually watch a whole movie on it???
thanks!

yes, you can watch full length movies on your axim, the only limitation you'd prolly run into is battery life, but most people here i think woulf recommend you buy a second battery anyway if you were going with the x30 hi. check out mugen batteries, they come in a higher capacity then dell oem batteries and are much more reasonably priced. i love mine.

Here's another wrinkle. Could I watch DivX movies streaming over 802.11b wireless on the Axim? I'm able to do so on my laptop with 802.11b no problem. TIA

Yes, download betaplayer v0.04. It's free and works really well.

There are a few things that can be done to help battery life like the screen brightness. I can view a full movie on my h2215 and only use up about nearly 40% of my battery which is only 950mAh.

i dont have a problem with my battery running out even when i watch a 3.5 hour movie on my axim.
i would recomend PocketMVP as the player to use if you are going to encode to avi.
also, a card of at least 256 is needed if you are going to encode the movie to a size that will be of good audio and video quality.

It depends on how you encode it. If you use a high video and audio bitrate it will play fine on your PC but you will most likely have issues on the PPC. The PC always have more resources than PPC.
WMV can offer you lower filesizes. In terms of quality both can be decent but it again depends on the parameters you use for encoding.

I have a quick question, about these "Mugen Batteries".
Cutting to the chase - Will they blow up/malfunction? Before I purchase one (Highly thinking about it) I need a lot of people to recommend them. Also with the 2000 mAh mugen battery, will it fit inside a RhinoSkin Hardcase for an x30? Thx :P

No, they don't "blow up", or malfunction that I know of. I am using two of them (2000mAh's) and they are great. I got them from a user here mef38 who sells on ebay. I highly recommend him. As far as the Rhinoskin case goes, no they won't fit. Neither will Dell's 1800mAh battery.
