What's the difference between Pocket Mechanics and Memmaid?
Hi, just bought an Axim X30 mid

Not sure which utility cleaner I should get. It seems like they do the same thing? Clean up unused files from CPU and internet.

If there's a difference what are they and which is better?

If you are looking for a cleaner, I would go for Memmaid

Pocket Mechanic is more of a defrag/format storage cards than a cleaner.

Memmaid is mainly a cleaner and it's doing this very efficiently . Also it's user interface is very slick and easy.

don't they have defrafmentors in your Pocket PC already? Why would you need to get a program that would do something you can already do without it?

Sorry if this sounds really dumb, but I'm a newbie to all of this.

actually there is no defrag built in the Pocket PC, and doing this defrag would suck up the life of the strorage card.
Also there is no much difference in speed cause Storage cards are not like hard drives.

may be that is why you never hear about a defrag for PC's memory
It's only for Hard drive where sequential access is faster than random access. and defrag makes files in sequential chunks.

sorry but that was a little over my head. Do you mean storage cards as in SDIO cards? I didn't buy one yet if that's what you're referring too.

Can you explain what a storage card is? I don't think you're referring to the SDIO card because that works like a memory card, and "life wouldn't be sucked out of it" by defragging.

Also would you recommend getting both Memmaid and Pocket Mechanics then?

Storage cards are CF Cards or SD Cards,.... where you store files or programs on them. they come in sizes like 128MB, 256MB,... and even 1GB similar to those in digital cameras.

They have limited number of writes and that why doing defrag can suck the life out of it.

because they are memory not a hard drive (mechanical), you can read data fast from anywhere on the card without doing defrag.

I'm not convinced to do defrag for my card, while in the same I really care about cleaning junk files so I voted for Memmaid. Cause I think Memmaid is doing more in cleaning than Pocket Mechanic.

thanks so much for the info. I think I will get Memmaid then.

Just one last question: Why would you defrag your SD card? Aren't you supposed to defrag the Pocket PC???

Again, I'm a newbie in this area.

You can only defrag a memory card.

Pocket PC is the device itself, even the built-in memory does not need to be defraged.

P.S.: You can ask question as you like, cause this is the place to do so.

Welcome to the PPC.
