On my previous PDA (a Palm) there was always an icon for battery status visible.

On my new Axim X3 I have to go to Settings and Battery to see the battery indicator, or I have to tap the time once, then I get a balloon indicating the next appointment and a kind of battery icon.

Is there a way (or (free?) programme) to have an icon of the battery status, for example in the bar where Start, the time and volume icon are located?

You could put Switcher Bar in your startup folder. It comes standard with Dell Axims.

Install vBar to get a battery and memory indicator next to the OK button in the top right corner.
