Sprite Backup or Sprite Backup Premium Edition

What is the advantage to having the premium? I know that you can back up to your pc but is that worth $10? And I do know that premium comes with two other programs but if I were buying spb +, dose it matter? Please shed some light on this for me.

Thank you

It is worth the cash, I think that the Premium also adds the ability to create self extracting backup files.

The two extra programs are nice. SpaceMon and SpaceDetective are top notch, Space Detective is cool cause it shows you what is taking up your space and allows checking storage also.

I think itīs pretty worthy. Mine is set up to backup to my pc at a daily basis. I keep the most recent backupīs and when a bigger change in setup i keep it as a milestone. Itīs also nice to have a backup on the pc in case your PPC getīs lost or stolen and in that casse your memory card will propably be the same place as the PPC :)

HERE's how I have my Sprite Premium configured.

In my BIS I only have a most basic backup. Just enough to get my Axim back in a useable state, for me. If I were to have to use the OEM Configuration of the Axim......I would have to revert back to Complete Newbie Stage. I have no idea how to navigate in an OEM PPC Configuration.

My "Basic Configuration" contains User Info, SnoopSoft DashBoard (configured), GigaBar (configured) and StarTap+. These are the changes to the OEM Config that I have used on every PPC I've owned. Like I said, without them......I AM Lost! So I know I can always get back to something I can use, but since I rarely remove my SD Card, should I need to, I can always go back one or two days for a Restore.

And I copy my SD Card (via a card reader), to my PC and Laptop once a week.

Never had to use it yet, on my X5 400/A04. But just happy to know it's there if I need it.

The Premium Edition backup to a PC is much faster than ActiveSync's backup. A full backup for me using SBPE takes about 15 minutes; AS takes over an hour. Also the SBPE Restore from a PC is much quicker and much more reliable.

I will be a contrarian here. I actually own the Premium Edition, and do like it a lot.

But, as someone else mentioned here at Aximsite (not sure who), you can save your backups to the PC (manually, of course) via activesync/windows explorer if you have the regular edition. You simply need to locate your backup file and copy it over to the PC. If I'm not mistaken, you would therefore have another preserved backup on your PC that you could bring back to the PPC if you needed it. This is in addition to the self-extracting one you already have on the PPC--which usually you'd save to your memory card or to your built-in storage.

As for the other programs with premium, I'm not that impressed by Space Detective or PocketMon, especially if you have Pocket Plus to provide similar monitoring capabilities.

If I had to do it again, and if I had limited funds, I'd probably spend the difference on another program, like MemMaid, Pocket Mechanic, or SKTools, and go with the basic version.

But, as they say, this is just MHO.

To complement XD, I'll add my 2 cents:

Sprite is a great program, no doubt about it.

The enhancements in Premium are:

You can backup directly to your PC/Network share
The extral utilities, Space Detective a the other utility

In my case, I transfer my backup files to my PC either via File Explorer or SD Card Reader Transfer

MemMaid, SKTools, and Battery Pack already have the other utilities that are added to premium, so I don't need them

I agree, I would save the $ and invest it in a great utility like SKTools or MemMaid.

In my backup options, I check the create self-extracting restore file, and stop processes. The compression cuts the file size in half compared to the AS and Dell Backup utilities. I backup a minum of once a day, sometimes more, and keep it on My SD card.

I like Klaatu's method of keeping a "base" image in Built-in storage.

To summarize, with all the other great system maintainence utilities that have hit the market, you may be doubling up on features if you get premium.

Good luck, and Sprite has saved my brass on numerous occasions!!! ;)

DAH!!! Didn't even check, this is my 1000th Post!!! :yeah: WooHoo!!!

I don't know much about the additional functionality that premium gives, but I have the standard and it can create self-extracting backups. (I have it create one on an sd card every night.)

Oh sorry, I wasn't trying to mislead. I was going from memory. I believe you can buy standard and upgrade later for $10... check on it since I don't want to guess and be wrong =)

Good point cjn, I would recommend buying the standard version, and if you find that you need the premium version, you can always pop for it down the road. To date, I've not found the need to upgrade . . .

xdalaw and wooch06 Of course you are both absolutely right. Transferring your backup file to you PC via AS/ Windows Explorer is much easier and faster than using Sprite Backup PE or simply via AS alone. Using a USB2 card reader is quicker and easier still. Also, if you wish, you can transfer the self-extracting *.exe backup file so restore would be easier too. Many thanks for pointing this out.

Also, if you already have Pocket Plus, you clearly don't need SBPE as well. I bought SBPE quite a while before Pocket Plus existed (or perhaps before I had heard of it) so I find both PocketMon andd Space Detective very nice and useful utilities. As wooch will know, I am also a utility freak.

Exactly davrol, I have the same utilities with Battery Pack, so I don't need them. As far as the utility freak, I'll bet we have the cleanest Axims on the planet!! :approve: :D
