I think its probably just the software having problems reading the corrent remaining time, or trying to round it, who knows, it shouldn't fluctuate tho because its just a regular battery that cant be recharged.
For whatever the reason, the backup battery will often report fluctuations in the percentage (usually between 80-100%). It is my understanding that this is normal, and nothing to worry about.
However, if the percentage drops below 50% then there may be some other problems that need to be addressed.
I've had my axim for about 4-5 days now and have noticed the same problem. I did a soft reset because my contacts wouldn't come up. The reset seemed to eliminate my battery problem, at least for the moment.
I had the same problem as well. I read on here a while back about others as well. They suggested a connection problem with the battery since the backup battery cover was kinda loose. So I just took some paper folded it up to get the size I wanted and put it in behind the cover. I have not had one battery drop since then. Try it and see if that helps. Although don't cram too much stuff in there, it only needs a little to seat right.
The battery is rated at 3.00 v. If it drops to 2.99 v, the gauge will drop to 80-90%. You can get a .01v drop from just a temperature change.
If it bugs you, a replacement battery is $3, and they start out just above 3.00 v so a small temperature drop in voltage won't trigger the circuit.
The battery being a bit loose is a more dangerous problem. If the backup comes away from the little contacts and the main battery is removed or dies, as Emeril says "Bam!" you lose everything. The little wedge to make the battery fit snugly in the little well is a good thing.
Yeah the one time that I had a major battery backup problem was when I kinda dropped (whoops) my ax on the carpet, I think it jogged loose and the contacts were messed up somehow and thats what hte problem was because I open the slot took out the battery and then put it bakc in and it worked great, its kinda scary to think that it could get loose tha teasy tho, so I jsut never let my ppc get below 25% of its power.
