It's arrived!! Axim in the UK

Well, it arrived today. Ordered on Sat 8th Feb, so took one day under three weeks. Its the 400MHz version.

First things first! I'm not happy! Instructions recommend charging for AT LEAST 4 hours before turning on! I can't wait that long...

Seriously, I have'nt used it yet but just wanted to say I love it already. Its a really solid looking piece of kit. Love the rubber grips on the side. Even the stylus is cool looking! But the nicest part is the desk dock, really stylish and heavy.

The box contained the Axim, with main and backup batterys. PSU, Desk dock, two manuals, Pocket PC 2002 / Outlook 2000 CD.

Right, I'm off to read the manuals for 4 hours! I'll let you know how it goes next!

BAH dont wait 4 hours (well kinda...) you can turn it on and play with it in the cradle after the orange power light turns green, just dont take it out of the charger until the 4 hour mark!

take advice at your own risk :p

Hmm

I have it charging via the PSU but not in the cradle, does this make a difference? 1 1/2 hours and still orange, how long does it take to go green??

Heart

It's charged up and I've just taken my first steps! (How cool is the blue Dell logo on the cradle!!). Just been browsing the net through the cradle connection, just needed to adjust the Pass through option to 'Internet' on Active Sync (Desktop side) and away I went.

Anyway it 2.30am in the UK, and I cant keep my eyes open much longer, as much as I hate to tear myself away from my new toy.. see you all later..

:rolling:

Ordered mine last Saturday.

Dell phoned on Wednesday asking to deliver it on Thursday :D

Had to make it Friday, though, but didn't wait four hours before switching it on. (Just what is that nonsense all about??)

I got the 300MHz version, though. I have no desire for a cradle, clock speed difference is so small as to have no practical effect (a doubling of clock speed is the minimum I would pay money for, and anyway, I read a review that stated there was no actual difference in speed at all) and I like the extra 80ukp in my pocket . My only slight concern is if there is any difference in useability due to memory sizes, though outboard memory should make that insignificant to, I would have thought.

Oh, and finally, the price on Saturday was 198ukp, on Monday it was 208ukp :D :D

It seems a very nice piece of kit, though it's difficult to know as my 8 year old daughter likes to monopolise it - she's sitting on my lap now surfing the net with the Axim connected via USB to this laptop which is connected by cable ethernet to the desktop acting as internet server. (Wireless networking hardware is arriving Monday :) )
