Question Is it possible to reinstall Pocket PC 2002

Looking at the CD the came with my Axim, it says Outlook 2000 and Pocket PC 2002 Prem. I took that to mean the CD contained the OS. Browsing the CD this isnt the case. It is ever necessary or possible to reinstall the OS? If so how is this done? Where do I get the install files from? Does my licence cover this? etc etc

That's what happens when you do a hard reset ... complete reload of OS, similar to format and reinstall on the PC.

Pocket PC 2002 is stored on the ROM inside your Axim.

Probably didnt explain myself to well there, I have seen iPaqs that have been upgraded from Pocket PC2000 to 2002, how would this be done, or if there are upgrade / hotfixes to the OS, is the ROM re-flashed? I'm assuming an OS CD would be needed etc to re-flash ROM. What about upgrading PC2002 to next release.

Nobody knows yet, until Dell produces something along these lines, either patches or upgrades. It should be possible to upgrade the OS when and if.

Chances are, when you see the next couple generations of PDAs, you'll want a new one anyway. They won't be any different from the progress seen in PCs and laptops.
The next gen may have video chips that run eight times faster than this breed ... in one step of improvement.
Memory cards (and built-in chips) are heading into the multi-gig area.

Make no assumptions about if Dell will release an upgrade to Pocket PC 2002. They have not said anything and for all any of us know there won't be.

I feel ya Trev, I asked the same question in the Apps Forum with no answer. Basically, what were asking is the Axim Flash upgradeable to a future new OS.

Is the Axim Flash upgradeable?

Yes just do a hard reset lol...:D

The answer is yes, if Dell wants to.
