Built in Memory is the left over ROM after the operating system is written in. It's available to use, thanks to Dell, and it survives a hard reset intact. However, it is only good for about 10,000 writes, so use it sparingly. I put my backups there, and not much else.
Storage memory is the portion of RAM that is used to store data and applications. It is functionally equivalent to the hard drive in your PC. It does NOT survive a hard reset, but is totally erased if that happens.
Program memory is the portion of RAM that is used to run applications. It is functionally equivalent to the RAM in your PC. It does NOT survive a hard reset, but is totally erased if that happens.
Storage cards, both CF and SD, are places to store additional data and applications. Functionally, these are equivalent to additional hard drive space, or zip drives, etc. The stuff stored here survives a hard reset because it is not actually IN the machine memory space.
