But I didn't want to be totally exposed, so I enabled MAC address filtering on the router. Not sure whats going on. Maybe I have a set-up prob.
WEP takes a load on the Axim because of the encryption that has to be calculated..

Good thing to tunrn on MAC adress filtering, another nice thing is to turn off the ESSID broadcasting... if you don't broadcast the ESSID no-one will even find you :)

I tried to get exact numbers for you today..

with the wep key at 128 Bit - I didn't wait for the test to complete (took too long)

with 64 Bit - For some reason, I had issues setting this up with the router.

Last week, when I first used the Dell card, the 128 and 64 bit settings worked, but the speeds were ridiculous after the test completed. I mean slower than a 300 baud modem.

Today with the wep set to "none", I got 740k

I running with a cable modem.

I have the Linksys 802.11b router, I just plugged the card in, it recognized the DEll network adapter and it works fine. Not sure of any tricks, maybe just start over.

jbigwater,

are you running the Linksys with WEP encryption on? I had serious problems with it enabled.

maarten, good point about the essid...i have that off as well. to tell the truth, i just wanted "some" level of security. if people get past the mac filter and essid off, then they probably have enough skills to hack the encryption. I just want to keep novices away..kinda like a car alarm.
