Connecting to Linksys Wireless Router
I have a linksys wireless router/switch model BEFW11S4 and i am trying to connect to it. I just received my Axim today and I have the 802.11b cf card for it. It says it is receiving a signal but when I check to see if the dns has granted it an ip there is not one. I have followed all of the setup instructions and I still have no luck. Is there a trick to it or should I just keep trying and hope to get lucky? Thanks

802.11g
Has anyone tried the linksys 802.11g router with the Axim's CF wifi card (the one Dell sells)
Are there any issues with 128 bit WEP?

802.11g, is different then 802.11b, different frequency's
I think 11g is 5 ghz, and 11b is 2.4 ghz
so it requires different everything to work. and if I am correct, the dell wifi card, is only 802.11b, so it will only work with 11b.
Also, I don't believe any 11g cards are available for the axim, and if they were they would be in the $500 dollar range I'd assume, since it is a really new band, and it is considerably faster...
did you change the ssid on the card to match the one on the router???

802.11g (54Mbps) is in the same band as the 11b (11mbps) version, 2.4Ghz. the 11a version (22Mpbs) is in the 5Ghz range.
Most of the 11g WAP's are compatible with the 11b standard, I have a Linksys WRT54G (11b and 11g) router/switch/WAP and it works just fine with my Pretec 802.11b CF card with 128bit WEP enabled. The WAP just switches back to 11Mbps when the axim connects.
A 802.11g CF card is not availble yet but PC cards and PCI cards (also 11b compatible) are all over the place and the go for 10-20% more than the same card with only 11b, that's why I bought a 11g router because it was just marginally more expensive than a 11b only WAP so I'm ready for the future ;)
Besides there are no 54mbps CF cards yet, you won' t need it in your Axim.. even 500KByte/s is way over the max speed your axim will ever need.. not to mention the power consumption....

Thanks
...but that still doesn't answer my question.
Does the 128bit WEP on the linksys 802.11g router work with Dell's 802.11b CF card?
I know from past experience that different manufacturers may not work together at 128bit encryption level. (different key types)
Has anyone tried this combination yet?

Linsys Wireless
I got my Axim last night with the DELL WF card and I have had no problem using 128bit wep on my linksys, granted it is the 802.11b version.

The answer to the first post is as follows:
I have the same router. Most of the time I can get my WCF12 CF card to connect without problems. Sometimes though it won't work and I will have to reboot the router. Sometimes I have to reboot several times!
Make sure your ESSID, Channel and WEP are configured the same as your CF card.
Make sure you have the latest firmware. The latest firmware is 1.44.2 12/3/2002 for Ver. 1 and 1.44.2 12/24/2002 for ver. 2. I'm not sure but I believe ver. 2 fixes the problems we are having. What version do you have? I think it says ver. 2 on the bottom if you have ver. 2 and it says nothing if you have ver. 1.
Finally if you are still having problems trash the damn thing and get the newer 11g model! That's what I intend to do, just as soon as my wife lets me! ;)
Hope this helps,
Rodney

How's the latency on the connection. Is it noticeable?

If I could get the thing to connect I would tell you. Anyone else have any tricks? I am trying not to call Dell Support and end up in hold hell.

I can't connect to the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router.
Verify that the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router is properly installed, LAN connections are OK, and it is powered ON.
Make sure that your PC and the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router are on the same network segment. If you are not sure, initiate the DHCP function and let the PC get the IP address automatically.
Make sure that your PC is using an IP address within the default range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 and thus compatible with the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router's default IP Address of 192.168.1.1.
The Network Mask should be set to 255.255.255.0 to match the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router. In the Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router, you can check these settings by going to the Basic Setup screen.

Found the fix, you can not have 128 bit wep running. So my network is wide open if anyone wants to share my dsl now. I sure hope Dell fixes that soon, yea right. Oh well, my Axim is cool and I like it.

I have the DEll wireless card and a Linksys router as well. I got the 128 WEP to work, but it was super slow. When I turned WEP off completely, I could surf with ease. I actually did a speed test at www.2wire.com and saw a noticible difference between 128bit, 64bit and none. Needless to say, I'm using none. But I didn't want to be totally exposed, so I enabled MAC address filtering on the router. Not sure whats going on. Maybe I have a set-up prob.
