Shifting appointments

Good afternoon,

New X5 user after 5+ years with Palm OS. Seems to be a common theme after doing some searches here for my question. Overall very happy with the X5--converted because work bought it for me and the LAN honchos wouldn't let me connect my personal Palm PDA to my new work computer. Got tired of not having my contacts/calendar/etc synched on both work & home.

I sync to both home & work computers--home is running Outlook 2003 and WinXP Pro, work is Outlook 2002 and Win2000 Pro.

Here's the challenge that I haven't been able to fix. I started by installing and synching to the work computer--that went fine. The few contacts & appts I had on the work computer went on the X5 fine. Came home and installed/synched to home computer. All the items from the work computer transferred to the home computer fine.

However, SOME (not all) of the appointments from the home computer got shifted an hour later when they transferred to the X5. They still show at the correct time on the home computer. For example, have an appointment tomorrow at 10 am that shows on my X5 as 11 am, yet still says 10 am on my home computer. Now that I've synched to the work computer again it shows at 11 am on my work computer as well. Came back and synched to home computer again, and still shows as 10 am on home, 11 am on X5.

It only happened to some of my appointments, and even different types of appointments. Some of them are recurring, some are stand alone, some were conflicting with other appts at the same time, some are the only appt for that time frame.

Any ideas why only some of my appt shifted an hour later when synched to the X5, and how to resolve?

Thanks
Jeff

Make sure you have the same time zone set on all three devices.

Another thing to check is does the Work computer use 24Hr clock instead of AM - PM clock?

Thanks for the replies and help. All devices are set to Alaska time zone (GMT - 9). However, the X5 and my work computer are set to 24 hr time format vs AM/PM. Will set all of them to AM/PM and see if that fixes it.

Thanks
Jeff

I reset the X5 and work computer to AM/PM time, and it didn't change any of the appointments. My guess is if that's the problem it will only resolve future occurences for appointments. The current appointments stayed at the same time and appear to be synched between the X5 and the desktop.

It does seem very strange that I do a synch on the home computer and it will confirm calendar is synchronized yet the same appointment shows one time on the X5 and another time on the home computer.

I guess I'll have to go through my work computer and manually correct all the appointments that got shifted an hour later. Will try that and see if it affects anything on the home computer, or if they continue to show synched and stay on the same time slots.

Thanks
Jeff

Good evening,

The plot thickens. I went through my work computer today and fixed all the appointments manually--everything on my work computer is the correct time. Synched to the X5 and everything went fine--all appts transferred correctly to the PDA.

Come home and synch to the home computer. Now some, but not all, appointments have been shifted EARLIER by one hour. Again, no rhyme or reason to the appts that got shifted--some were in conflict with others, some recurring, some not, etc.

I guess it has something to do with the home computer, since everything seems to go haywire when I synch to it. Any more ideas? Appreciate any guidance from the forum.

Thanks
Jeff

I fixed it.

Almost embarrassed to admit this, but went back into the time zone settings on my home computer. It was set to Alaska time zone, but the box for "automatically adjust for daylight savings time" was unchecked. Checked the box, and voila, it instantly shifted all the appointments that were messed up back to the right time.

It was right under my nose the entire time, but glad to say it worked out. Appreciate the help and replies. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go through the journey from Palm to PPC user :)

Thanks
Jeff

There are increasing problems with this this year since the dates for DST have changed (again!). Some computers do not handle this correctly. I only synch with one computer, but whethre I check or uncheck the DST box, I still encounter problems like AKJayhawk. Anyone have any additional insights?

Thanks
