SD cards
I have had a few pda's now and have never had to use the compact flash spot for anything other than hardware (modem mostly). I have seen a number of posts referring to problems with SD cards. As I have never used them (and I don't think I have ever been close to filling my memory), I am not sure what one would use them for.
Suggestions?

I've heard that a 128MB Sandisk causes some people trouble, so keep that in mind. Personally, I pick the cheapest one and hope for the best!

First of all, stay away from Sandisk products. They caused me some major headaches (and about 90% of Axim users). Second, consider getting at least 256Mb SD (non-Sandisk, of course). This will leave your CF open for a WiFi or modem. I filled my 256MB SD very fast. I have installed many programs on it, have many offline webpages (Avantgo) syncing to it, MP3s, Simpsons episodes, etc. I would love to get an extra card if I can find one cheap.

Check out the threads on this topic. I can definitely recommend the Lexar 256MB SD card. I've had no problems at all with it.
As for deals, buy online. Check a bunch of places, like Amazon.com, Buy.com, etc.

Thank you for the feedback. However, what I am not sure of is when I would put things on the SD card as oppossed to just putting them on the Axim (which is what I have been doing for the Axim and the other PDA's which I owned). Thoughts?

You need to keep the axim program free to run (intense) programs, and have then run good. The more stuff on built-in memory the slower apps will run, thats why most ppl buy a SD or CF card and throw all their apps on there and just leave them in the slot, so they can free up axim memory.

Where did you get that figure from? I've had three sandisk sd cards and have never had a problem. you having problems with sandisk doesnt mean 90% of axim users are too. think before you speak for everyone else.

Ouch. I didn't mean to offend anyone here. And, clearly I didn't take a scientific survey to get my 90% figure. Do a search on Sandisk here on this site. You'll probably see something really interesting - a huge amount of users saying that their Sandisk cards don't work with their Axim. Yes, I had the same experience. If I had done a search on Sandisk on this site prior to ordering one, I wouldn't have done so.
NOTE: Dell is also well aware of this problem. When I called Dell's customer support to return my Sandisk SD card, they acknowledged that it is a common problem.
Anyway, 90%, 50%, or 20% - I wouldn't take another chance on Sandisk.
Glad your Sandisk is working out for you, Chucka.

SD Cards
Waiting for my Axim to show up sometime next week and I can,t wait to say good bye to my Palm III and say Hi to Dell. I have been reading about the SD problems and thanks to this great site I decided to hold off buying one from Costco. My question is does anyone have experiences with Kingston cards?.And also I am waiting for my new IBM Think Pad T30 to arrive and I am new to the flash card idea so what do I need to use my flash card in my laptop to transfer MP3 songs etc.....Thanks

Sanddisk SD card poll
Hey, because of all of the talk about problems with Sandisk SD cards, I started a poll for owners of the cards. It isn't scientific either, but perhaps a little better than just reading posts from folks who have had problems. The results aren't a ringing endorsement for Sandisk, but better than you would think from reading posts from those who have had problems.
