Question Remote Email Access to Company

I'm still new to this game. There is a ton of information on this site about connecting to the internet and how to go about it, etc. etc. Almost too much for someone like moi.

My question - I have a brand spanking new X5 - I want to be able to access my corporate email (notes) from remote meetings, hotel rooms, etc. Wireless is not a requirement.

What questions should I be asking? Like, what additional software, hardware will be required. Also, our company is security crazy, will that sink my plan? Previously, at the same company, we could access our email over a laptop. So I know it can be done, but I can't make the leap from laptop to Axim - must be getting too old.

Any suggestions help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If your company is hard on security issues then you will probably need a VPN client (virtual private network) to connect to your companies network. There have a been a few threads on VPN's. Use this sites search utility and look for VPN and it might direct you to some good apps.

Then you'll need to get in touch with your IT folks and get the VPN access info.

Thanks. I'm sure if I keep digging through this web site the answer is out there. I would never have thought or known to look at VPN. The lead will help get me focused.

If I understand correctly, your company uses Lotus Notes?

Then you will also need an additional piece of software to get the Notes data to your Axim. More on this can be found on the FAQ under software.

I use mNotes and now recommend it above everything else (except maybe Domino Everyplace)

Thanks again. I know our company has "domino" servers, but that is the extent of my knowledge. Yes we do in fact use lotus notes. I know to sync at the office should be straight forward; need some syncing software and a cable connection to my workstation. Wam Bam and it's done.

It is when I take the axim on the road that I get a bit lost. Is Mnotes the "onroad" version of a syncing software? Also, I'm not exactly sure if VPN is simply a "virtual" private network via the internet? And what does that mean? How is it established? Is it a concept that Work has to "buy-in" to in order for remote access.?

If you are ever interested in KC I can forward your resume to our technical corporate systems department.

I also have the same question. I currently sync LN using IBM easy sync, but this just enables me to bring along LN emails. I would like to be able to connect the AXIM to my web enable cell phone, dial into my ISP and use a VPN to connect to my work network. I have the VPN software up and assume I can load it onto my PPC, but I also need the actual LN program to access corp e-mail so I am wondering if I can load that onto a CF card and access the program that way once connected to the VPN.
