Worried Problems with Sandisk SD

Just read about 15 posts about Sandisk SD. Mine (a 128) went blank today, and asked me if I wanted to fromat my SD card2. 2?? Where did 2 come from??. I tapped no and I was left with a SD card that was empty. :rolling: I shut down the Ax and restarted it. I was asked if I wanted to format again. I tapped yes, and was informed that I had 120 megs of space on the card. Is that correct? Formatting took 8 megs? Is it "REALLY " formatted? I read where 'morphscott' and 'zoopl' tell us how and what values to use with storage tools to format, but where does one get the 'cnetx', etc.? How do you do it exactly, what do you need, and does it really work? Has anyone heard from Sandisk?
Mine is less than a month old. Does calling them do anygood? Sorry for the long post.....

Thanks in advance!

I've only had my Sandisk 256 MB for a day and have had some problems.

Before formatting I could create folders, but nothing transferred there showed up afterwords. I DL'd CnetX (trial) and formatted it to FAT16, 8KB clusters, but any soft reset with the card in the Ax then required reformatting the card. I also DL'd the freeware version of StorageTools ( http://download.com.com/3000-2178-96...ml?tag=lst-0-2 ) and then fromatted to FAT32 as was suggested in one thread and the card seems stable now.

So give that a try and report any further problems...

This is obviously a Sandisk/Axim incompatability problem since users report no problems with other brands. Many people also report no probs with Sandisk so maybe it just requires the right settings to keep the card stable. I was basically stuck getting Sandisk as nobody in my city carries any large capacity SD cards in any brand other than Sandisk

Worried

Thanks for the link, but do you need a card reader or can you just put the Ax in the cradle and format the SD card while it is in PPC?

Thanks again!;)

I have had 2, 256 MB sandisk cards with
no problems, for about 2 weeks, they both
have been written to, and formatted completely
full several times.....

I also had a toshiba compact flash card
that crapped out on me on the first day...

You do it all onboard the Ax.

I had a Sandisk 256MB SD card for about a week with no problems.

Then while I was using my Axim, I suddenly noticed various sections of skins disappearing and then the background (the skins were stored on the SD card).

I tried to access the SD card with no luck - it asked to be reformatted. I didn't do this but tried it in a card reader, but it wasn't recognised at all there.

So I put it back in the Axim and tried to reformat it, but the reformatting kept on giving an error message before finishing.

I still don't know what happened - I had kept it in the Axim without any problems, and then during normal use it just died.

I am currently waiting for a replacement from Sandisk... I hope this one lasts more than a week!

While I note all the other posts on this subject, I have one more fundamental question --

Does the SanDisk SD 128 card have to be formatted out of the box?

I bought my first card yesterday and stuck it in the Axim and right away it reported a tad over 120 MB free. I have not saved anything to it yet. Seems to be formatted already.

Any comments?

The cards come pre-formatted.
