I guess I just don't understand the purpose of the screen protectors. I have read numerous posts about them and have picked two that I would use based on reviews. However, I have used a Palm for about 2.5 years and another no name brand for a year before that, now I have my amazingly wonderful Axim and I want to make sure I have it for a long time to come or until the 1Ghz Axim with 512 ram comes out (hee hee). In the time I have been using PDA's I have never scratched or done anything to the screen that would have called for me to apply a protector. Am I doing something wrong? Just kidding, I must be a very lucky person and may eat my words after this post but I just wanted to ask everyone why they use the screen/write protectors? Outside of the obvious, what is the benefit to me to have the screen protector on?
I think this forum is great and I have learned a great deal about my Dell and my need for it. :D

With my first PPC (the Compaq Aero), I never used a screen protector, and never made a scratch on it. With my second PPC, the Casio EM-500, I used it for awhile without a screen protector, never made a scratch, and when my father bought a pack, I decided to use one of his. Personally, I just prefer not to take the chance. If I paid $300 for something, and then got the screen scratched, I would be highly irritated, to say the least. So when I got my Axim, I immediately put a screen protector on it. This way I do not have to worry. But of course, I am OCD and about to go insane because no matter what I do, I cannot get all of the dust out from under the protector. Sorry that is another subject. Personally, I just do not want to take a chance. Plus, if there are no scratches, dints, dings, etc., the resale value will be higher.

Rather be safe than sorry. It would not take much to marr the surface (by accident) when placed unprotected (not in a case/holder) in a pocket, console, or by an engagement ring (as my wifee did, and a good long ine at that) on her Compq IPAC 3855, last year. It made it difficult to read information at times. She did it while attending a meeting, holding it in her hand. For only a few $$$, protect it. She has one on her new Dell Axim!!!
The problem with using a stylus device is that no matter how safe you are some dust is gonna get between the stylus and the screen. Leaving hair line scratches which you can't see unless your in bright lighting and looking at the screen at an odd angle.
I'm just having difficulty keeping the dust off the screen; my kleenex technique doesn't work with the Axim's screen :P

Kleenex is the WORST "dust free" way to clean anything. It is also abrasive. That is the #1 no-no in cleaning camera lenses. Go spend the $2 and get a good dust-free cloth to clean your screen.
I used them off and on on my Pilot5000, but I used it for many years. I have a few very light scratches on it. I could even hear it once when I scratched it writing with the stylus while the screen had dust on it.
Anyway, I was using the Axim screen protectors, but they keep sticking to the screen. As someone else called it, in a honeycomb pattern. Meaning it doesn't stick where the holes are, but around them. I had to keep pulling the protector off to get them to go away, but they'd always come back.... So, I may have to find some that stick flat to the screen.

Yup, I use these and they work great. Highly recommend them.
I just received my WriteShields Wednesday. Installed them, great feel on the screen (like it's naked), look great, no bubbles, hardly know they're there, can be cleaned and reused, no adhesive...just clingy. I highly recommend them. :D
I badly scratched my E-125 in only a couple of months and the touchscreen wasn't covered by the warranty. I say always use a protector, it’s a lot cheaper than replacing the screen.

I just found two tiny scratches on my screen, that I can "feel" when I write over them with my stylus. Hard to see though so they aren't annoying. I have no idea how they got there. I can only speculate that they were cause by dust coming b/w the stylus and screen. I'm ordering WriteShields right now.
BTW I don't mean to scare you all into buying a screen protector - I happily lived with the light stylus scratches on my Palm VII for years. It's just that the Axim is my baby and I can't let my baby get hurt. ;)

If I wanted any proof for using a screen protector, all I have to do is look at the one I have on the Dell now. I'm using one of those handmade ones with the transparency and I can see small scratch marks at the block recognition area.
With the colour I don't want any scratches to mar my appreciation of this wonderful devise.
