USB network connection from Axim?

My Axim is supposed to be delivered today, and I've already got a question.

I've got a 2Wire HomePortal network at home. The router has a standard ethernet connection (to which my desktop machine is connected) and it also has a USB network connection (to which my office laptop is sometimes connected).

Can I use the USB sync cable for the Axim to connect my Axim to the router and my network? Or am I better off just connecting the Axim to my desktop using the USB sync cable and accessing my network that way?

TIA.

It's been said in this forum, many times, many ways ... but one more time won't hurt. USB has controllers (masters) and devices (slaves). The PC is a controller. The Ax is a device. You cannot connect one device to another device. There is a CF card that acts as a USB controller, but that's probably not what you had in mind.

That doesn't answer my question. I'm not trying to connect the Axim to my desktop (except, of course, for syncing); I'm trying to connect it to my router. And the fact that I can connect my laptop to the USB port on the router suggests that it might be possible to do the same with the Axim.

I guess another way of asking the question is to ask whether the USB port on the router is a "device" or a "controller".

You can't use that port on your hub as a connection for your Axim. It is not a USB host.

You have a couple of options.....you can get a CF wireless card and a wireless access point or you can get a CF wired Ethernet card. If you intend to browse your network (eg. shared folders and such), you have to have one or the other of these solutions. Conneted to your PC via the USB cable, your Axim can only see the machine it is connected to, and even then only as a host with no browsing.

That's about what I've concluded. I think I'll go the wifi route.
