Question File Transfer, How is it done?

I am just about to get the Axim, my first PDA. Here is a really basic question: How do I get files onto the Axim from my PC. Is this done via the ActiveSync? I mean in particular Word, Photos and MP3. I don't have to use Bluetooth do I?

Also the issue of expansion cards confuses me. Are these involved in transerfing data? Is data transferred from the AXIM to the Cards after being downloaded from the PC via ActiveSync?

PS: If my MP3s are played on WINAMP on my PC do I need to install WINAMP onto the AXIM too?

Thanks
Nick

Here's a good starting place to learn a bit about the system.
MS Tutorial

Basically, when you dock to your PC with Active Sync, you can access the PDA file system from the PC. You can copy/paste files, or drag and drop to any directory/folder on the PDA.
Some types of files will be converted to Pocket format ... loosing some of the more complicated PC format.

Music files ... mp3 or wma ... will play on Pocket Media Player, but there are others to choose from. No Winamp yet.

Expansion cards can be CF-I, CF-II, MMC or SD. This is memory you add where files and programs can be stored, but is not available to the system to execute programs. It saves you from using up main memory, leaving plenty of space for the OS and your programs to run in.

Welcome aboard

Hey Nickmon -

Here are a couple of answers... you use Activesync to transfer files between your Axim and your desktop. Activesync 3.6 is included on your PocketPC disk. Microsoft Outlook is the Contact Manager that I utilize between my PDA and computer.

The main items you sync are your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and your web favorites. I also sync Microsoft Money, certain documents, and AvantGO (which is downloaded web content).

Bluetooth is not needed for syncing. Although, I am pretty sure it is possible to sync through a Bluetooth connection.

One use of an expansion card is extra storage. I use my expansion cards to store MP3 files and such.

Hope that helps.
