Question My Documents & Storage

Okay, I'm a newbie and I've read LOTS of stuff here about memory and storage and "My Documents" and yet I'm still confused! :(

What I've found is that whenever I sync, anything in the folder My Documents on my desktop PC goes over into the My Documents folder (Under My Device) on my Axim.

Now I find that I'm getting really low on memory (Yes, I have lots of emails I wish to keep, notes, as well as documents, etc.) yet my device still looks like it has some space available in the built-in storage but only about 1mb free in the main memory (under the memory settings), hence why I started searching this site for information on how to solve my low memory problem.

From what I've gathered from the site, the My Documents in the main memory is where items are sync'ed to, but you can lose any data you haven't sync'ed if you perform a hard reset, remove all batteries, etc. So why can't we just move that My Documents folder to the other location "Built-In Storage"? Or, since we can't do that, what do we use the "Built-In Storage" for?

Are other "My Documents" folders we create on storage media backed up during the "Sync" process??

What I guess I'm trying to say is, as my emails, notes, and othe files I wish to keep sync'ed grows, how do I handle them via "Other" storage options?

One thought it to store all those documents on either your SD or CF cards, and unly use the My Documents for files you must keep in sync with files on your PC. If the documents aren't going to change, there is no reason to continually synchronize them....

I tried moving the My Documents folder, but it won't let you. Seems it has to be there in order to sync with email, notes, etc.

You can create a new My Documents on the cards, then move the files to there, but as you say, at the next sync, they get copied from the PC to the default My Documents folder. There are third party apps that will allow syncing to the cards. Search here for them.

I don't use sync to move files from the PC to the Ax. I just use Explorer and File Explorer to open the folders on the Ax and PC and then use cut and paste or drag and drop.

Built-in Storage is the left over ROM after the operating system was written. Don't use that for volatile files, because ROM is only good for about 10,000 writes. You can use it for backup files, emergency files, etc, because it survives a battery removal/hard reset.
