Man oh Man

Ok just found this site last night and finally applied for membership. I am new to the PPC community as a matter of fact I do not even own one yet. I have friends and colleagues that do and I have really been impressed by the way that these smart little devices work. I tended to look at them as an over priced toy, but I have more and more seen the error of my thinking. Now I stand in the edge of a whole new world ready to take the plunge and the only problem that I have is the undeniable idea that I have to choose between one PDA. ARRGGG!!! If I only had the money to buy one of each <grin>. I am a very money conscious person (I have a family to feed) so I have been looking at the lower powered units selling in the $299 price range when I stumbled upon (and I mean by pure luck) the Axim. The more I looked at it and read reviews the more confused I got. I know that this is a die hard forum so I guess a unbiased answer is out of the question <grin>, but I really would like some pro and cons of this unit from actually users of the Axim 400MHz series vs. maybe a other brand or two. Thanks and I really look forward to maybe getting an Axim. I need to make my decision soon because the $50 rebate expires soon.

I did exhaustive research before I decided on Axim 400. In fact, a co-worker bought an IPAQ the same day. Just yesterday we were comparing features at lunch. The Axim is so cool. The larger screen really makes a difference. It's sites like these that make me glad I chose Dell. I got the wireless card as well and it really makes my Axim a functional unit for me. I couldn't imagine having anything smaller to deal with. As far as price, my daughter has the Axim 300, which is less money and for most uses it does just as well as mine. Be sure to get the cradle if you choose the lower priced Axim. Happy shopping!

Thank you very much. I am definatley looking at the 400MHz unit, it comes with the "cool" looking stand <grin> that I read about in one review. I am not looking at any other items yet due to financial constraints but I will at least get some screen protectors.

Axim

I came from a Handspring Platinum to the Axium and I'm as happy as can be. The dual expansion slots are more than I hoped for and just the speed alone impressed me. Coming from a grayscale screen to a color screen was also a delight. I have not had occasion to call customer service (which is the biggest complaint from what I have read on CNET) so can't address that. Activesynch has some quirkiness but like anything you have to adjust for it. I like the programs like Pocket Word, Excel, and Money and looking at Pocket Streets. New to MP3's, but have download a couple to me Axium and sound (with headphones) sounds good.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest I would give it an 8. The only reason I don't give it a higher score is that I don't believe in perfection and everything can be improved.
