That picture is not posted on my website and I never said I deserved any credit for it. All I did was find that was a problem with it, and then posted instructions on a website.

Not that you guys need a referee but I see there are some misunderstandings about 'who is who' and 'what they've claimed vs. what they've been given credit for.'

bf792 - you came up with the solution but made a simple mistake on your original diagram and DennisFranz posted a copy of your diagram on his website.

dudeyougotadell tried using this diagram and, because of the mistake, couldn't get it to work. He discovered the problem, wrote out the 'correct' process and posted it on his website (as KB5TBB).

dude' then told Dennis' of the problem so Dennis' posted the correct directions on his website, giving credit for the written instructions to KB5TBB (not realizing at that time that was actually dude').

SO, it is bf's drawing and dude's written instructions.

Now, if I weren't so pissed off at Dell's phone system, I would happily be the beneficiary of all this work but since I refuse to ever try contacting Dell again, I'm up-the-creek and will probably be looking for a CF GPS so I can skip the cables all together.

ikehiker,

Thanks for the referee work. I agree 100% with what you said.... But no one said KB5TBB did anything and he never claimed to..... Just dudeyougotadell, who made the page (no images on it) that explained what pins needed to go where. I'm going to get that page taken down because DennisFranz has all the information on his site.

Sorry you're still ticked off at Dell.. It was very difficult to order my cable. I had to order it via the phone and it took several attempts to get someone to admit they sell that part number.

Get over it...

I don't want to get in to a flame!!! I said that in the message. Get over it...

If "Dude" and "KB5TBB" are one in the same... I sent a shout out for correcting my error… If your not the same person… Shout Out to Both of you for correcting the error…

IKEHIKER,
The connecter works. Use it and have fun with the Etrax and the Dell. I had problems talking with Dell’s Support. But that was not going to force me into paying money to buy a CF-GPS.

Fanning the flames....

Everything sounds cool.

KUDOS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!!!

I'm just happy we have a working solution... Without the original post from bf792 mentioning the jumpered setup, we'd be nowhere.

I really don't have a pressing need for my Axim and eTrex to communicate with each other. It was just a fun exercise figuring out how to do it (with all due credit to the individuals on this thread ;) ) and eventually I would have played with it with my bike and maybe on hikes (although being realistic, I doubt that I would ever take both the eTrex and Ax on a backpack trip. Too much weight and, while I'm impressed with battery life on the Axim, it would only allow periodic use over a week+ trip).

I suspect eventually there will be some second party serial cables available so I may come back to these efforts at that point. Life is too short for me to put up with the inept phone system Dell currently has in place (as you may tell, I don't forgive inept service easily. I haven't spent a dime in BestBuy in the past four years since they pissed me off.)
