OK, I'm stumped. How do I download hearts and reversi to my Axim? I have the exe for both of these on my pc but don't have a clue what to do to get them to the Axim. Same w/ ebooks. I've activated MS Reader and have ActiveSync working (don't know how I did this successfully). I must be lucky or know enough to be dangerous.
Help!!

With your Axim connected to your PC, run the executable for the games and follow the screen prompts. ActiveSync will come up and ask where you want to install the game. The rest is pretty self explanitory.
For eBooks, I just drag and drop the .lit file onto my CF card. When I open the eBook reader the books show up in the list.

To install Hearts, Revesi (and minesweeper for that matter) from Microsoft, just run the exe file on your local machine with you axim in the cradle and activesyc connection established. The install file will automatically start and you'll see it pop some stuff up on you monitor, and then you'll notice it getting installed on your Axim. Just watch both screens for sometimes there are user inputs needed.
As for ebooks, the easiest thing I have noticed you can do is create a folder called "My ebooks" on your Axim, and then through activesync file explorer, drop all your ebooks there. When you activeat MicrosoftReader, it will automatically find your ebook and put them in your library. Hope this helps..

Are these all PPC game app's? I'd like to have all the standard MS games (including Spider Solitare) over to my Axim.
When you say "run the exe file on the local machine" do you mean double-click the .exe file in explorer on the desktop? Doesn't that just start the app on the desktop?
Thanks for hanging in there for us newbies....... :(

Yes, that is correct. The ActiveSync software will see you installing a PPC app and take charge of the install to redirect it to your Axim.

These are PPC specific files. Most of them are a self-installing executable (hence .exe). Running the .exe does not start the application, but infact start a process of extracting files, prompting Activesync, and then pushing them through to your Axim. There are certain programs that can be installed on the Axim that DON'T have a self-installing exectuable. Only in these cases do they give you manual instruction on what folders to create, where to drop files, etc. Hope this helps...

Thanks to Talador, but it doesn't work. I have a successful a/s connection, but when I click on the exe for hearts/reversi, it just comes up w/ a window for winzip self extract. What am I missing??

I think Kevin123 was referring to the actual MS games you can get for Windows, and NO these are not intended for the PPC. If you downloaded/purchased the PPC versions, then the instructions provided are correct. The exe is just a "compressed" install/script that decompresses the necessary files and starts up AS to "deliver" the apps to the Axim.

Sandi,
Go ahead and extract the files, then there should be an additional "setup.exe" or "install.exe". Run that and it should install from there. I will see if I can find these games and check out the install to see if there is anything else I might be missing.

There is nothing on my pc asking me where I want to install these games. I assume I'd install them in 'Games' w/solitaire, if it would ask me.

When I downloaded them from cd or 'net or wherever...I installed them in My Doc/My Rec'd files. I click on the exe and all it does is winzip unzip.

Yes, you need to unzip the files to a location on your PC, then run the setup.exe or install.exe to finish the installation to the Axim. Unfortunately, Handspring wants $30 for the MS games bundle and I really don't want to buy them, so I hope we can figure this out w/o any hands-on...

One thing that I ran into when installing the MS games that Dell's setup CD allows you to download is that the "Program Files/Games" directory must not exist before running the install. Since it there by default, what I did was rename it (using the File Explorer), do the first install, copy the installed program into my renamed directory, deleting the new Games directory. This was repeated for all of the MS games and I can now run Hearts, Reversi, Minesweeper, etc., fine on my Dell.
I'm not sure why Microsoft didn't make the installer program to just use the existing games directory, though!

All this advice sounds good, but I guess no one really understands my problem. I thought someone would be able to solve this for me, but I guess not. I haven't been able to load anything to the Axim, but synching has been successful (I guess...no error messages). I don't understand why I don't get any on screen prompts.

Sandi:
If the games directory already exists on your Dell, you'll get the symptoms that you're describing (or at least I did when I first tried to install them). By following the steps that I outlined, they were successfully installed.
