Some advice on exiting ActiveSync...

Can anyone please tell me the correct way to exit out of ActivSync 3.5.
Do I just pull my Axim out of the cradle or is there a correct way to log out/off??
The problem I am having now and again, is when I go to exit all running programmes, a message pops up telling me ActivSync is still running (or similar words to that effect).
It has left me a little bit unsure, as if I am doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Peter.

I just pull it out and go

Since I use mine more at work than anywhere else I am constantly pulling it out and going to meeting and such so it is in and out all day. I ususally get a message and the Axim lets me know that I have pulled it but I dont have any problems. When I put it back in the cradle it auto syncs and that is that.:p

I would suggest that when you exit out of the cradle, you also need to close down active sync...either with a task manager like Zap or the one provide by Dell, Switcher Bar, or a free ware one like Pocket Nav. Active sync, when the Dell is taken out of the cradle, does not automatically shut down. That has led some to think that when you turn your Axim off, that programis still running, and "may be turning your Axim back on" after awhile.

I don't know this first hand, but have heard it a lot...

I don't think I agree with

That logic does not seem to make sense to me. From waht I have read, it is a procedural thing with Pocket PC in general that no program will automaticly shut down but will kind of hibernate in the background. There is a post on here from a Pocket PC programer that says MS did that to enable faster start times for programs that are frequently accessed. In the several weeks that I have been using my AXIM I have never encountered a problem with not shuting down activesync. Now I have shut soem thigns down with the task bar when playing games or reading e-books just to make sure I have plenty of power for the weekend. however when my second cradle arrives and I have it connected to my home PC I don't think that will be an issue.
Maybe some of the more senior members have an opion on the matter.

Activesync is always in the background, lurking, just waiting for activity at the cradle/cable port. Wireless, it is not so alert. But it is perfectly ok to pull the thing out of the cradle and not sweat activesync. It'll just sit there, waiting for you to reconnect. If you do shut it down, it'll still start up when it hits the cradle/cable. The only difference is that it takes a bit longer with it "shut down."

Now for the "waking up" settings, look at the options>Tools>schedule of activesync on the Ax. I have all three boxes unchecked so it never wakes up when not connected. If the middle is checked the Ax will wake up by itself and look for the host.

BTW, I'm not a programmer from M$, but I did say that the rationale behind not closing programs was to have a quicker response. I read that many years ago when the first M$ PDAs arrived on the scene.

You are right about checking the settings to make sure about enabling active sync...however, for those that were not familiar with that, they were having problems with active sync "coming back to life" after their Axims were shut down. Next thing they knew their battery life was down a bit...

Safest bet is to check the settings and shut down active sync...just my opinion.

Exiting ActiveSync

A patch can be written to exit ActiveSync when the cable is disconnected. Personally, I cant write something as complex. Maybe Dell or some AximSite member can give it a try...
