Inputting contacts??

I've been having fun with the Axim, shuffling the Dell provided programs in and out, converting my Excel utiities to the PPC, etc.

In my pre-Axim world my contacts were kept in two places: a little grey book tucked into my DayTimers (ie, handwritten) and in my Eudora nicknames file (.txt file, not Outlook!). Now I want to get all this stuff into the Axim.

Is there an easier way? That is, easier than using the on-screen keyboard to peck all this info in? I'm bored and I've not finished the B's!!

Is there a way of typing in from my PC while synched?

Thnx
Bruce

Will Eudora allow you to export to Outlook? If so, you can synch that way. Sorry if that doesn't help, I have always used Outlook and when I moved from palm to PPC and had no problem moving my contacts to the new Axim.

I believe the Dell cd which came with your axim included a PC version of Outlook. You might install that, it will make keeping your schedule and contacts up-to-date much easier in the future.

Also, you should look at your .txt Eudora file, and see how you have it formatted. Once you load Outlook, it allows a wide variety of import file formats. Check them out - there must be an easier way to do this, than re-typing them all with a stylus!

If nothing else, it's a great excuse to buy the axim keyboard.

;)

I don't know of a way to type THRU activesync to the axim, if that was your question. Maybe someone else knows that.

Since you are familar with excel you can copy and paste into an excel sheet and save it as a .csv file. You can then import this
into outlook.
First use the outlook export option to make a .csv
file of contacts, this will allow you to see what fields are what and then just add to it. Now just use the import option on outlook and your good to go. Not the best but it works.

The RemoteDisplay application will let you use the PC keyboard to type to the Ax. It's a little slow, but it does work.
