Extra adapters under Network Adapters?
Hi All-

I inherited an Axim with a Dell TM 1180 WiFi card.

Card works great with the Dell drivers installed. By works great I mean that I can use the Dell Client, scan for nearby WiFi networks, use PocketWarrior and search for other networks- etc.

However, I cannot seem to connect to ANY of them. When looking at Start|settings|connections|network adapters, I see 4 Adapters installed.... (including the Dell TM 1180 client.)

I don't know how the other 3 (NE2000 Compatible, PPTP1 NDISWAN, etc.) got in there- or why they're there.

I tried removing the Dell TM 1180 client software, and sure enough- that "Adapter" went away...but how do I remove the others?
Do I want/need to remove the others?

I've configured a Wireless Profile -but now what? How do I get the Axim to *USE* this profile?

BTW- I don't have any docs. (otherwise I'd read them before asking all of you).

I know, I know- total newbie question...but I've searched and searched, and can't seem to figure it out myself.

THANKS!

Those others come installed by default with PocketPC. The NE2000 Compatible is a generic wired ethernet card driver. The PPTP1 is a VPN driver for point-to-point tunneling. The NDISWAN driver is an intermediate driver that provides functionality such as data compression, encryption, loopback, and simple PPP framing.

The Axim will automatically use whatever adapter is installed (as long the right driver for that adapter is in place). If you have installed the driver for a WiFi card and you then insert that card, the Axim will use it. You do not need to do anything to force it to use a specific profile.

Great. Thanks for the reply.

I was all set to do a hard-reset, just to get to a baseline. Not all that big of a deal- since it was an inherited device anyway (I'm also inheriting all its problems!).

I guess now I'll look at the AP that I was attempting to connect to. Perhaps there's something there that's keeping me from connecting.

Just curious, but is this your AP or someone elses?

One is my company AP, and the others are my friends AP's.

The only reason I mentioned PocketWarrior in the first post, is to show that the WiFi card does appear to work.

I'm in the I.S. group at work and I use the Axim+PocketWarrior to search for AP's that users connect to "my" LAN. All "White Hat" stuff.

You made it sound the complete opposite.

As for work, someone should be able to tell you what settings you need. Encryption, IP info(DNS, dhcp, etc), etc..

Same for your friends.
