Can the D-pad buttons on the Axim be mapped to launch software, like the other buttons? My biggest complaint about my Handspring Visor was that I only had 4 buttons to map to software. If I could map the D pad buttons, that would give me an additional 4, which would be perfect.

The D-pad can't be mapped. The only function for pressing the D-pad is to turn the backlight on. You only have 4 buttons. There are some utilities to make your life easier. A nice one that hasn't been mentioned much in this forum is Snoopsoft's Dashboard. It's a today screen replacement that includes a launcher.

I don't remember the name of the utility program or the URL, but I swear it wasn't a dream :P ...

Anyway, the program lets you map each of the push buttons to two different applications. One goes when your push and release, the other goes when you push and hold. So now you have 4 buttons on the front on the Axim that will launch 8 different applications. I'll post a link when I find it again...

I found it! :o

This is what I was looking for, Vito Button Mapper. :D

Looks pretty slick and comes with a 14 day trial so I'm going to check it out. If you're looking for more buttons to assign to programs or system commands like dim screen this looks like the way to go.
