clueless, frustrated and ready to chuck my axim...

Ok - first PDA, Axim X30 wireless with bluetooth, 312 mhz.
Me - I'm not that computer saavy and downright ignorant about wireless. That said, I am having a problem connecting wirelessly to the internet when staying in hotels, Panera or ... With the Dell manual and PDA's for Dummies book at my side, I have followed the instructions in regard to using wi-fi thru cisco leap and odyssey configuration and nothing-

I make a connection when in a hotel (specifically Hamptons)and the wlan utility Has the network as hhonors, connection: excellent, encryption: wep .Yet,when I try to go to a website from internet explorer, I keep getting the same error message:
cannot connect with current settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings...
Well, fine I tap setting, connections, but then what?? I followed the instructions in the manual and I have yet to succesfully connect to the internet. IF there is a computer guru in Jacksonville, fl who can help me, please contact me. I bought wireless because I need to ocassionally access my mail and look at customers websites rather quickly and the wireless feature is of no use if I have to spend 3 hours configuring this thing...
Do I sound frustrated???????
Thank you,
C.

I can't help with Wifi, but I can tell you this:
1. PDA for Dummies, which I glanced at at BN, looked pretty unhelpful overall.
2. The Dell manual is virtually useless once you get past hotsyncing.
3. Be careful if/when you call Dell support. I haven't had the pleasure, but from reading the posts on this site, you can get bad information.
4. Your best bet, if you want to persevere, is to search your questions on this site. There's lots of wifi info.

Well, first off, disable the odyssey client, then read over the wifi setup instructions here on the aximsite main page. I have an x30 an can connect to panera's no problem, that and my home network are all i've been able to try so far

Worried odyssey client

Wha is the purpose of Odyssey client and why does the manual say to enable it? (I'll take your advice though...)
I've fiddled with so many settings that I've probably really screwed up everything. Are there "default " settings that I can go back to?
thanks

the "easy" way to get back to "default" is To do a hard Reset

He may not have to if it's broadcast to Axim.

end of saga....

:rolling: FInally sent my axim back... EWvery time I'd go to a free hotspot, window would say I couldn't connect. Call the hotspot tech support each time and they couldn't figure out why I couldn't connect. I emailed Dell tech support twice and they just tell me to call customer support. I call tech support when I am having the actual problems and I have waited twice: once for 1 1/2 hours and the second time was for 45 minutes when the restaraunt kindly asked me to leave so they could seat people who actually wanted to eat at a table. Pretty sad that the support is so bad... My only other option was to pay someone 75.00/hour to figure it out.
I loved the Dell but it was useless to me if I could not ocassionally connect to a hotspot.
Sent back this week-end. Perhaps the palm os system is more user friendly?
Thanks everyone. I followed all the links that you refered me to to no avail... but thanks anyway.
