Avoiding duplicate contacts with new unit

I have ordered (but not yet received) my Dell Axim v50. But I want to head off a problem I had with a palm.

I want to sync contacts (and other info) with my office and home computer. When I did this with Palm, I ended up with lots of duplicate entries, and perhaps some conflicting ones. I'm wondering whether, before I set up my Dell, I should manually go through some of the contacts and other info and try to take out duplications that way. The only problem is that I'm liable to miss some.

Is it necessary for me to do this kind of clean up before I set up my unit and try synching with either computer?

What is happening with the duplicate addresses is that with syncing at home and at work the Palm doesn't know it is two different computers. You will run into problems with things like this on the dell. I would recommend having two accounts named different things. Also I would recommend that if you have duplicate addresses that you go through and delete them as needed because you will have this issue syncing on two computers. I have downloaded with two different comps in my Palm, but not sycing it. it just really doesn't work. I would recommend cleaning up the duplicate contacts before stting up the Axim, as this will probably prevent future problems. Thanks and I hope this helps!

This is helpful. If nothing else, I realize I need to figure this out ahead of time.

When you say create 2 accounts, are you suggesting that I have one account for each computer?

I'm actually tempted just to erase all my outlook files on my home computer, and then sync afterwards. But if I do that, will I avoid duplication down the road? Or should I just abandon the idea of syncing on both entirely?

I thought that WIndows PC had some kind of system for "partnering" 2 computers to avoid these issues. Am I mistaken about this, or does it just not work very well?
