Question transcriber help???

Had the Axim for about 3 weeks and I'm loving it. I tried the TRANSCRIBER in the early days and it sorta worked... I saw where I needed to train it, thought I'd do it later and kept playing.

Later came and I went through the character training and the transcriber got worse, until it finally failed to produce any character correctly - - at ALL.

I trained it again - - same thing, nothing, absolutely nothing correct - - I'd print a "C" and it wouldn't recognize it. Not an upper case T, nothing, printed or script.

Out of frustration the other day I turned the unit sideways (buttons on the right) and tried! It was perfect. I rotated all four orientations and only this one works, even though the print then appears left to right in the screen normally oriented (90degrees off the way I write it).

Have I failed to read something? Have I inadvertently reoriented the transciber??

coming from Helio/Palm, I.m partial to letter recognizer myself, just seems faster for me than transcriber (and more reliable).

I'd do a soft reset (puts you back to keyboard) then, re-align the digitizer, then switch to transcriber, and see if it's any better, this has fixed recognizer problems for me in the past.

reset not necessary, figured out

I haven't found a written explanation but I figured out what it is. G
o to Notes, activate the transcriber.
In the lower left corner is a heavy black arrow, if you click it, it rotates. This rotates the transcribers orientation. It gives you six different orientations:
North, South, East, and West, and the interesting diagonals NW and NE!

I had hit this inadvertently during some earlier session.

I found it on a car wreck site, the boulder slide marks in the grass of the hill just cracked me up, so it's mine now :D

glad you found the problem

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I must have hit that arrow by accident also. I've pulled my hair out all day trying to figure out why transcriber all of a sudden would not recognize my handwriting.

Whew I was worried.

This site is so useful...

Glad to help, and I agree

Glad to help and I too think this site is very useful. More useful by a long short, than the transcriber. I have forced my self to use it but I'm not convinced it's a long term contribution to my productivity.

soft reset

you may also want to try a soft reset. i had some similar problems even when i was writing in the correct direction (based on the perpendicular arrow thingee) and did a soft reset. seemed to fix the issue.

I am using Transcriber with a Dell Axim 50v with instant messenger. I had to reinstall the instant messeger program (imovsoftware) and now when I use transcriber it only shows a "one line" input screen and before it gave me more space to input my text. Also before when I input my text it would "show" what I had entered before I sent it in my I. M. Now I can't see what it recogizes after I write my message.

I think if I could get rid of the toolbar I might be able to see what I have entered before I send my I. M.

Any solutions - as I know before it showed the transcription.
