Several newbie questions

I've had my Axim x50v for one day and come up with a bunch of questions. Thought I might as well combine them here. Some are reallllllly obvious, probably.

(1) In the user guide, I notice that they occasionally suggest accessing the demo for guidance. But no matter how hard I search, I cannot find any demos. Can someone tell me how I get to a demo?

(2) I know people have complained that programs remain running even if you "x" them out. But do they still remain running if you use the switcher bar to end them? If so, then why bother with some of the add-on software meant to end programs?

(3) I have synced my computer with Avantgo (where I had an account for my palm), but do not see Avantgo on the Axim afterwards. Is this because I am not running Avantgo on my desktop at the same time? Do I need to change Avantgo settings to make it pc, rather than palm? Or am I simply not seeing where Avantgo is located on my Axis?

(4) I purchased an extra battery with my unit. Is there a way of charging it without putting it into my unit?

(5) I have downloaded several different input methods to experiment, including Fitaly and Caligrapher. But now I no longer see transcriber. Can anyone explain this to me, or tell me how I get transcriber back?

(6) ON my old Palm Tungsten C, I was able to download email from my 2 email accounts at once, but it appears that with the Axis I have to go into each account and then download the mail. Is there a way of doing this simultaneously, as with my Tungsten C?

Thanks for answers to any of these questions.

Congrats on the new Axim. I think you will really enjoy it.

(1) In the user guide, I notice that they occasionally suggest accessing the demo for guidance. But no matter how hard I search, I cannot find any demos. Can someone tell me how I get to a demo?

Can't be sure, but they may be refering to the "demo" or trial versions of software on you install disk. If you are looking for general help/info Microsoft has set up a Windows Mobie site and you can choose your system ect. Pretty good. You can find it under "Help & How to" here.

(2) I know people have complained that programs remain running even if you "x" them out. But do they still remain running if you use the switcher bar to end them? If so, then why bother with some of the add-on software meant to end programs?

If you use the switcher bar to close the programs then they are really closed. If you just use the X then they are just minimized. I like to use MagicButton because it works and looks better then the switcher bar. Plus some of these programs do more then just close stuff. MagicButton for example also has a battery meter you can put on the menu bar at the top. But if you like switcher bar it does the same thing.

(3) I have synced my computer with Avantgo (where I had an account for my palm), but do not see Avantgo on the Axim afterwards. Is this because I am not running Avantgo on my desktop at the same time? Do I need to change Avantgo settings to make it pc, rather than palm? You need to install the software form the Avantgo website. It will tell you how. But that needs to be done. Then it should work just like on your old palm.

(4) I purchased an extra battery with my unit. Is there a way of charging it without putting it into my unit?

If you have the cradle (and I assume you do) the spare battery fits behind where you Axim goes. The light next to the Dell logo on the font of the cradle is for this battery charger.

(5) I have downloaded several different input methods to experiment, including Fitaly and Caligrapher. But now I no longer see transcriber. Can anyone explain this to me, or tell me how I get transcriber back?

Sorry, I have no expierence with these.

(6) ON my old Palm Tungsten C, I was able to download email from my 2 email accounts at once, but it appears that with the Axis I have to go into each account and then download the mail. Is there a way of doing this simultaneously, as with my Tungsten C?

As far as I am aware, no. You have to set up different accounts for each. Maybe someone will have a better idea or some 3rd party software for this.

Thanks for answers to any of these questions.

You welcome. We are here to help! Have fun with your new Axim. :approve:
