What's the best way to learn to use PPC's?

Many years ago when I had a Handspring Visor I bought a book called "Visor for Dummies". Is there such a book for Dell PPC's? I find a lot of good info on this forum but still have a ton of questions. Last night I started looking at themes. Found out my X50 is QVGA, or at least I think it is. I tried to find out where, in what folder, on the X50 the themes were stored. Still haven't found the answer to that question after searching this board. Even basic questions like how to create a folder on the SD card takes me an hour of trial and error to get the file created, then another 20 minutes to transfer the files from my RAM to the SD card. I find the best way is to use my desk-top PC to create the file while the X50 synced. When I do a back-up am I backing up the data from my internal RAM to my ROM? What should I be backing up? I would love to have a book where I could just look up these questions. Just looking for answers to basic operations of my new toy.

If your fimilar with a PC you will easily slide into using the PocketPC's OS... The main problem I see is the applications that come bundled with the device itself... as you get more fimilar with the OS... you will realize it is actually quite intuitive. You just need some third party software to make the transition easier.

Resco explorer... or one of their bundles would be a good place to start. And I would also recommend a taskmanager... I would like to suggest Wisbar Advanced 2 but it is still having some issues with vga devices... there is a new beta out... that hopefully will address some of the problems... v2.0.1.13 Beta

As for your theme question... I normally store them in a subfolder called "Today Themes" in "My Documents"... Note that you are only allowed to create folders one level down in the PocketPC OS. If you want to change a theme of delete one... you can do it in /start/settings/today you will see the themes in a menu there.

I find that if your polite... and tried to find the solution yourself... people will be more than happy to help you out. If not... PM me... I will help you.

there is a book called 'how to do everything with your axim' that you might find handy just do an amazon search for it but saying that and i dont want to sound like a traitor ar anything :) but there is another book called 'how to do everthing with your pocket pc' 3rd edition. i feel this second book is better becasue it not only includes everything what the axim one has but becasue it is generic it covers other newer things as well...my opinion:)

Thanks for the replies. I ordered the book from Amazon. That should help a lot. With a new toy I just want to learn it all "yesterday" and that's just not possible with the work schedule and needing to sleep too. Last month it was learning about the new compound bow I just bought.

just explore the apps, especially the submenus ("options", etc) at the bottom the the screen. it may take awhile to find what you're looking for, but its a lot of fun

The book will certainly help, but i've found the best way to learn is to just dig in and play. Also - don't forget the forums here, and use the search box on the front page.

Welcome to the wonderful insane world of Ax-aholics!

Have fun!
