Help - I'm making a mess of things

I've read the manuals, tutorials, posts but I'm a user not a techie.
1. Can I receive AOL mail on my X50v? How?
2. How do you page back? (I know... you can't believe it)
3. I have loaded two programs (iFodors and Via Michelin) following the tutorials. I can pull up the main program but neither one can find the file (the maps) it needs on my PDA. I can see the file in file explorer but Axim can't. If I do a soft reset the map is there in iFodors but after I close the program it won't be there next time.
4. When I load a program the Axim announces that the program was made for an earlier edition of Windows Mobile and may noy display properly. Normal?
5.The PDA turns itself on in the cradle. Should I turn it off?
I appreciate any help without too many snickers or guffaws.

Welcome to the site!

OK, let me get the snickers out of the way... OK, done.

1. Don't use AOL, so on to the next one.
2. In IE there is an arrow facing to the left. Tap that to page back.
3. I am assuming your program is looking in a specific place for the maps and you don't have them stored in that place. When you try to open the maps do you have a way to look in different folders?
4. You want to go with programs for the Arm, or even better the Xscale processor. Some older software may not run well on the Axim. You can always install it anyway and if it doesn't work, remove it.
5. You mean when you put it in the cradle it comes on? That is normal. Does it come on at any other time? To do so for reminders is suppose to happen.

See you around the forums!

Allow me to add to jpmarth:
1. Don't use AOL
2. --"--
3. If the porgram is using PPC defaults, it is probably looking in the My Documents folder, you could try move the data there? It is probably program dependant, so there is no simple answer - contact the supplier/author and ask them
4. This is (I Think) because you X50V is a VGA PDA, and the app you are installing is non-VGA. Or it could be the ARM X-Scale thing mentione by jpmarth, either way its normal, and if no program updates are available, and no wierd stuff happens - ignore it.
5. Yup - normal, turn it off again if you want (perhaps let it finish syncing first)

Try downloading and installing this, http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=522
FileManCE as a better fiel manager than the one already present. You can put a shortcut link in the main "My Documents" folder which points to where the maps actually are placed. Right click on the map file and choose send-->shortcut-->etc. That way you do not take up your main memory space.

Thanks for your replies jpmarth, dad and hc2. Wow is the learning curve ever steep with this thing. I appreciate your not laughing too loud. Checked with the supplier and was told to load the mapping program and then the map (I had loaded them both together). Now it works...he might have wanted to put that in the directions. Have added FileManCE and can see why you like it. Will access AOL on the internet. I will be back with more stupid questions. Thanks again.

Ok. So I have finally solved my installation of the travel program maps(iFodors and Michelin). They will not run properly when Icbar is running. When i don't have it running all is fine. I don't know what this means (except I am dumping Icbar).
Is there a place on this site where we report such conflicts to help others?

Re: AOL

I'm not a user of AOL myself but you might want to look at AOL® 2.0.55 for Pocket PC 2003 2.0.55. You can find it at Handngo or PocketGear. I think that's what you need.
