WM5 (Windows Mobile version 5.0) Updated Solution, no 3rd party software installs either - unless you count Ms Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, etc.
PROBLEM:
Unlike some past version of Pocket PC / Windows Mobile in
WM5 there is no way to multi-select
contacts. They can only be deleted one at a time.
REMARK:
Contacts are set to sync by default and many ppc (Pocket PC) users lack internet access or the desire to send email form their ppc or both. When they realize that their ppc now has a copy of
all their
contacts they worry about them falling into the wrong hands.
SOLUTIONs:
Use Outlook on your desktop computer.
OR
download the free utility called "Clear
Contacts":

directly at:

Ideally: 1. close outlook and reveal hidden files and go to your *.pst file and make a copy of it.
"C:\Documents and Settings\YourLogonName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst"
Or search your C: drive with explorer for a file named *.pst or outlook.pst, if more than one look at the time/date of
the file. Then click edit, copy, paste to your desktop. This is not a very dangerous operation but it is good to be safe.
2. Start outlook go to your recycle bin and empty
all files in it. This makes things simplier during the restore.
3. Desktop: click
contacts and take note at the bottom of the total number of your
contacts, click Edit, Select
all,
delete or press
delete on the keyboard.
4. hook-up your ppc and synchronize it -
all contacts will be deleted on the ppc.
5. go to activesync click Tools, Options, uncheck
Contacts, click ok, click sync.
6. disconnect your ppc and look in
contacts on your ppc it should should be empty.
7. Back to outlook on desktop pc, click "Deleted Items" icon click edit, select
all, now right click the list and choose Move to folder, choose
Contacts or just drag to your
contacts - but it is risky becasue you might slip with the mouse. Verify that the total number of
contacts matches what you had before by looking at the bottom of the screen.
Proof of Technique: I just did with my axim x51v
wm5 device and my desktop pc w/ outlook 2002/xp and it worked great and very fast too.
