Add/remove programs

Well, I'm a new old guy to Pocket-PCs and this is possibly a very easy ActivSync question but I can not find the answer in Microsoft KB, newsgroups, or a search of the Axim forums.
I am trying to do 2 things on Add/Remove - one at a time.
I want to remove a listed application.
I want to add an application.
Somehow I manage to do it incorrectly and remove many applications I want to keep on my PPC.
For sake of example, I want to remove 'Existing app' from my PPC.
At the top of Add/Remove in ActivSync, I see 'clear the check box if you want to remove the program from your device.' That I can do. Below that I see 'Install program to the default folder.' Does it matter if this is checked or not?
Add ing is just the opposite. At the top is 'Select a program's check box if you want to install it on your mobile device, or clear the check box if you want to remove the program from your device.' But I want to do neither. Some programs listed are already on the PPC. I don't want them installed or remove. I want to install only one program. How do I do this?
Alternatively, point me to a relevant document/web page.

I find the ActiveSync interface to be confusing when uninstalling. Instead, I use Settings, System, Remove Programs on the Axim.

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!!!!

I can do that. Any suggestions on the 'Add' side?

Depends on what type of file I'm installing from. If it is a CAB file, I use CABINSTL, which allows me to specify where the app is installed.

If it's an EXE file, I just double click on the file and and follow the instructions, being careful to watch for that pesky box asking if I want to install in the main memory (for which the answer is almost always NO!).

I understand that part. My confusion is ActivSync. I get the popup box asking me to check what I want to install and all apps listed have checkboxes. I don't want to reinstall all of them - just the new one.
