All I have now (and since Dec.10 when I received my Axim) is the travel sync cable. I am syncing just fine...no problems. The cradle does, however, allow you to charge your battery right in it as well as syncing. I've ordered the cradle (just because), but I'd be fine w/o it too. Just depends on the person and the usage. ;)

Depends really on how often you are desk bound. I would say that if you spend any more than a couple of hours a day at your desk then buy a cradle as well as the travel sync cable. That way you can pretty much forget about charging.

Those morons at Dell did not send me the cradle with my advanced Axim, and it has taken over 10 phones calls to Dell to get the problem resolved.

The people over there in customer support claim that the advanced unit does not come with a cradle... I don't know what information they're looking at.

When I finally got through to someone over there, they wanted to charge me for it when it was supposed to come with it in the first place. I finally convinced them to send it to me for free, I should be receiving it tomorrow.

Other than the ability to charge a battery it is just a convenience, both cable and cradle do the same thing. If you are only going to sync at home I would get the cradle. If you have to sync with other computers the cable would be more convenient. I have 2 Axim one with a cradle one without. I am making a poor man's wood cradle to hold the second one in the upright position with the cables coming in from the bottom.

If you are just going to sync to one computer I would get the cradle for ease of use and not having to rummage for the end of the travel cable.

However, if you are mobile and/or sync to multiple computers, carrying the cradle will be a real hassle.

I have the cradle on my desk at the office keep the travel cable with my laptop for when I am home or on the road.

Hope this helps!

I agree with neurodoc. I did not get the travel sync cable originally but had to pony up and buy one to keep my home and work sync-ed.

I have only just got my Axim, but I have had a Casio E-125 for a couple of years. I use the cradle at home for convenience, just drop it in and it syncs to the computer and charges the battery. For travelling the cradle is too bulky so I use a sync cable.
BTW, when travelling, I used to charge my Casio with a USB charge cable; to save lugging around the power supply. Has anyone seen a USB charge cable for the Axim yet?
