My opinion on the three programs I use:
e-Sword
Use: Personal study time, message preparation
Pros: Easiest to use, everything syncs at the same time (bibles, commentaries) easiest to use for definition lookup. Ability to highlight. Large library. Ability to Boolean Search, ability to wild card search
Cons: Extremely slow searches relative to other two programs listed. Slow bible (KJV/Strongs) opening, EVERYTHING IS NOT FREE (I just spent $40 for the Complete Word Study Dictionary) NO MAPS, takes 5 taps to get to 1Cor 1:18
OliveTree
Use: Bible study (attendee)
Pros: MAPS!! Fastest to get to a verse, 4 taps to get to 1Cor 1:18, ability to highlight, FAST search, ability to export search list, syncs all bible versions at once, stores purchases on their server
Cons: NOT EVERYTHING IS FREE (spent $19.95 for maps, $19.95 for KJV/Strongs at the time the ONLY bible program to have KJV/strongs), Can not perform Boolean search, Can not do a wild card search, limited library relative to other two programs
Laridian
Use: Message preparation, personal study time
Pros: FASTEST searchs, ability to perform Boolean searchs (even with Strongs numbers) ability to do wild card searches, large library, they store purchases on their server
Cons: VERY FEW FREE BIBLES, READER IS NOT FREE, NO MAPS, bible versions do not sync automatically, NOT INTUITIVE TO USE, CAN NOT HIGHLIGHT, 7 taps to get to 1Cor 1:18

I have Laridian PocketBible and Pocket e-Sword on my Axim. I used to have Laridian MyBible and OliveTree on my Palm.
I should have downloaded Pocket e-Sword before I purchased all those bibles, commentaries, and dictionaries from Laridian. e-Sword is slower, but it's easier to navigate and more intuitive than PocketBible. I actually prefer Laridian's MyBible for the Palm over any of these programs as a pure bible reader, but it's not available for the PPC, and it doesn't read commentaries and dictionaries. OliveTree was a good overall program, but I don't need a 3rd program for my PPC, and the Palm version was unstable.
I recommend downloading Pocket e-Sword before you go out and buy Laridian PocketBible. The thing that's really missing from e-Sword is the NIV. If you need NIV, then you should pick either Laridian or OliveTree, but you can still use e-Sword for all the other bibles. One program I really like from Laridian is the Memorize program for learning scripture. I recommend that one no what which bible reader you get. It integrates with any Laridian bibles that you have, so that might be a consideration if you want to memorize scripture.

On the other hand
I've been extremely happy with Laridian Pocket Bible. I actually found it to be very intuitive and I like being able to add my own notes to scriptures in the program. Definitely like the Strong's Numbers and I also have the Greek and Hebrew Concordances.

see if you can leverage your pc pruchase price of e-sword for a discounted ppc price.
I have Laridan, which I had on my Palm. They offered a discount to transfer to a ppc, but I ended up giving the palm to someone else and included the sw. I did find a discount on the Laridan site when I purchased it.

Guys, let me ask a silly question. Are you talking about Pocket Bibles? If so I must ask do people get them to look up quotes at any time and stuff. I'm a little interested.

Long time user of Pocket Bible and love it. I purchased it because of the variety of translations available. I have both the NIV and "The Message". If you can figure out your Pocket PC, you figure out this program out. It is not difficult. I am a frequent traveler and I am sensitive to the number of items I need to take with me. At church, it is convenient having both translations. Is it faster to use a hard copy? Slightly. For me it is about convergence of devices. When I travel, my Axim is my MP3 player, Bible, Gameboy, Notepad, photo wallet, portable DVD player, and sometimes my laptop (but usually leave the heavy lifting to my "real" Dell laptop).

I use Laridian all the time. Mostly NIV and Life application bible. Although the sync is not automatic, all verse references in LAB are linked. Tap one and NIV goes there. Works well for me.
